Redman Report post Posted August 29, 2011 I don't know 34b at all or i'd help you out... hopefully someone can pm you and give you some information. I appreciate you serving our country in the military... thank you for what you do. I second that. Never hunted 34B. I would suggest going to the AZ Game and Fish Website and look under the unit hunt reports.
coues fever Report post Posted August 30, 2011 Redman & Coues79, thanks for the replies and not being snotty about me asking for help. I knew when i posted this topic i would get some flack for it. Usually wouldnt have asked but hunting out here is a whole different ball game than midwest hunting. I hold the highest respect to the hunters out here. Ive been reading this forum for over a year and just recently decided to join up. I have checked out the game and fish unit reports, and i have been out in the field a couple of times. plan on being out quite a bit more before my hunt. unfortunately dont have any buddies here in arizona that are into the whole hunting scene so i am going at it alone. WadeNAZ Report post Posted September 29, 2011 so i have a tag for 34B early november hunt. im from tucson so ive been out scouting a couple times in the las cienegas. didnt really see much. i know some of you dont like to share secrets but i need pointed in the right direction. its only my second year hunting in AZ and being in the military, dont have a whole lot of time to scout. im not asking for anybody's honey hole just a tip in the right direction. 34b was leftover tag for us. Never hunted that area either. I wouldnt worry to much about some selfish blowhard trying to protect their turf. I asked several people at work if they were familiar with that area (lots of hunters) finally found a guy that grew up hunting 34b. "SWEET" Hes going to get me maps, landowner info, and a ton of other info on that unit. email is gzeke@cox.net contact me and ill share the info I get...........unless he was full of sh.t ya never know. Not to sound like a jerk, becuase I do try to help guys when I can and I have asked for help on several occasions. BUT... This is the exact reason many folks won't help you out at all. Here are two guys with less that 10 posts between them and it appears the only reason you are here is to try to get as much info on where to hunt in your unit this year. Not that it is necessarily a bad thing but then you go and post that some guy at work decided to help you out (probably in confidence that you would not share said info with the world) and that you are going to not only share it with your other inner circle but you are going to presumably share it with anyone who emails you too. There are some courtesies and responsibilities you need to extend to the people who offer help by using that information wisely, protecting it and re-assuring them you have done so. I am pretty sure that many of the folks that would have helped you out will now reconsider after reading this... Welcome to the site. I look forward to hearing how your scouting and hunts go. I have never hunted in that unit but take the time to get there and scout. that is really the only way you are going to know what to expect. if its like areas I have been in before access can change from year to year. Get some good vantage points from where you can glass a lot of country with a good pair of binos and put the time in and you might just find what you are looking for. WadeNAZ Report post Posted September 29, 2011 If you have to preface a comment with "Not to sound like a jerk" your probably going to sound like a jerk (you do). Not that anybody asked you for your opinion but since when does the amount of posts a guy has determine the level help he gets. I offered my help to a hunter who has returned from serving this country. You can save your self righteous lecture on scouting and sharing info. The guy I got it from was thrilled when I told him my intent. As for scouting, we live four hours from this unit and have jobs. You have obviously mistaken me for someone who gives a crap about what you think.........wrong! You are going to fit in great around here. Welcome to the site. please tell us more about yourself, you sound like a swell guy really. It is great of you to help out another hunter especially a serviceman. Had I known something about that unit I would have too, just I would have sent a PM so it is not public to all the other trolls. and yeah I am a jerk if you stick around long enough (that is, not just when you are e-scouting) then you might see what kind of a jerk I really am...TOUGHGUY! bmf1321 Report post Posted September 30, 2011 You are in a good unit. Good bucks can be found throughout the unit but like mentioned before the numbers are down. Sounds like you are off to a good start on locations. Keep scouting. You'd be surprised at what you find later in the season, EX: fall, in an area that you wrote off earlier in the season, EX: summer time. Deer behaviors change as the seasons do. If you are having a hard time finding deer, start looking for sign. Something made the sign so this would tell you there are deer in the area and you are just not spotting them up. Finding deer in our type of terrain is certainly different than the hunting you are used to. Keep getting out there and you will fine tune your "western" hunting skills as you gain experience. Feel free to PM me with specific questions if you'd like. I am by no means an expert but have learned a few things the hard way and have spent quite a bit of time in 34b. Scooter Report post Posted October 11, 2011 The only way to tag out is to find time to scout for yourself. You cannot expect to just drive-in, slam the truck door, and pick from the litter of bucks that will be right where someone said they'd be! Even if someone gave you the honey-hole, there's still a TON of work you have to accomplish in order to be successful. Yeah, people give you flack when you internet-scout... I make it out there on my own. That, my friend is the difference between a "hunter", and a "shooter". People who rely heavily on others for their success usually are of the "shooter" variety, and there's nothing wrong with that. The outdoors has varying levels of involvement. For instance: I've never Quail hunted before... so instead of going out there and scouting up some birds for myself- I tagged along on a trip with some experienced hunters and got skunked. Once bitten, twice shy- I went out and scouted/hunted for them myself and ended up finding a few. I'm a "hunter" with "shooter" tendencies. It's easy to piggyback off of others, but the real satisfaction in the outdoors comes from your own achievement, not from someone telling you where to go or what to do... It's 85%the "hunt" and 15% the "shoot" that is the gratifying event to the "hunter". Anyway, I tried not to be snotty- I hope it didn't come across that way. I am in the military too, and I feel your pain. I think that every outdoorsman has to look inside and figure out whether they are a hunter or a shooter, and then plan their trips according to the skills that they posess. If you don't have time to scout- get a guide and be a shooter. If you can budget some time- get out there and HUNT the deer you are looking to harvest. Hope it all works out for ya and that unit is in my back yard so let me know if youo encounter any problems! Good luck!
