Gut Pile Report post Posted August 21, 2011 Hi folks!Well, I grabbed a leftover unit 29 Coues Tag rifle. Im headed down tomorrow to do a little bowhunting and looking around. I've never been there, and checking the web it looks like most everything around the Chiri's for camping is closed due to the fire is closed ( Rustler, Ruckers,Idlewild, Sycamore). Any ideas on a spot to camp near there or can/should I spike camp it?
Coues Archer Report post Posted August 21, 2011 Unit 29 used to be a fantastic unit to hunt! it was always full of deer, but also had almost all available land locked due to private land. This year its most likely gonna be really poor because almost all of the Chiri's are burned.
CouesKiller.300 Report post Posted August 22, 2011 Even though the majority of the unit is closed to camping are we still allowed to archery hunt in those areas right now?
Dodger2 Report post Posted August 23, 2011 Nope...the forest is CLOSED. Couple of weeks ago my family was advised (by USFS LEO) that we would be cited if we were anywhere in the forest other than on the road to/from our cabin or at our cabin/well etc. Permits have been authorized for property owners only. The roads are posted with notices. There are certain trails and roads that are open (Coronado Nat'l Forest website). 29 is a "no go" for the archery season right now. The closure is in effect until 10/15 at the latest. Trust me...I have that tag and have been hunting down there my entire life, its killing me not being out there in those hills right now!!
