123456 Report post Posted August 21, 2011 Anybody got any information on what permits etc are needed to fish the Colorado River. Lee's Ferry, Vaseys Paradise etc??? Any do's and don'ts??? I do not know anything about Vaseys, but I know Lee's ferry very well. You will only need an Arizona license and a trout stamp. When you show up at lees ferry, there will be a pay station for your vehicle and boat access. I would say about 50% of the time it is broken and then you have no way to pay unless the forest ranger station is open a little closer to the river. We made 2 trips this year, one we had to pay and one we didn't. Costs about 30-45$ depending on how long you will be there. Use Panther Martin's black and gold 3/8 ounce. Sounds heavy, but it helps get a little deeper and catch more fish. Make sure you smash your barbs on your lure and do not keep any fish over 14". Good luck, hope this helps. Red Rabbit Report post Posted August 21, 2011 Here is a great source for Lee's Ferry info http://www.leesferry.com/ Flow is a constant 25k cfs now. I might wait until it comes down, along with the temperature.
Coach Report post Posted August 22, 2011 I used to fish Lee's Ferry a lot. I had the best luck with 3" rebels that look like baby brown trout. Sometimes, you need a weight 2-3 feet up above a swivel to get 'em down to 6-8' feet. If you went more than 3 casts without a fish, your depth was wrong. Good luck and tell us what works. Non-Typical Solutions Report post Posted August 22, 2011 I have been thinking about making that trip for Christmas, one friend of mine said they used to fish that Vasey's Paradise all the time but I don't know if I can make the hike. I have also been told that I could hike in at Jackass Canyon. I remember 20 years ago hearing about Jackass Canyon but never was able to make that trip but I am thinking that one might be one I could handle. Thanks for the info and the weblink.
