huntswnm Report post Posted January 17, 2006 http://www.mangusbowmen.com/photos/fell_1.htm Here is a link to a photo of my first Coues buck. I took him on Thursday the 12th while sitting over a water hole. 20 yard shot, double lung, the buck only went about 50 yards and I watched him go down. I was in tree stands for 7 days in three different spots and saw bucks in all three locations. The day I harvested this buck I got into the stand a little later than I wanted, about 8:00 and actually seen this buck chasing a doe about 8:45. Three hours later he approached the tank from the direction the doe had lead him off from and the rest is just a blur. From looking at the teeth he looks like a pretty old buck. This pic doesn't do him justice because his left antler has some other "stuff" on the main beam you can't see from here. I reckon he is probably past his prime and on the down hill slide as far as his anlters go. We rough scored him about 85". I tell you what, this is my first Coues as well as my first deer with a bow and I am hooked!! Jeff
5yearcoueshunter Report post Posted January 17, 2006 Wow! Nice buck Jeff. That buck looks like he has some age on him. Congratulations on your first Coues! Definately a trophy to be proud of, especially in New Mexico. I'm still looking for my first Coues. Eight years now in NM, 2 misses due to buck fever, and I'm hooked for life! Again, Congrats on your awesome buck! Travis
DEERSLAM Report post Posted January 18, 2006 Great buck Jeff. He does look like an old timer. Love the mass and character on that rack. I hunted unit 24 with a rifle this past Nov. wish I had seen him while I was there
COOSEFAN Report post Posted January 18, 2006 That is one helluva trophy with a bow, even if it wasn't your first! The character alone throws score out the window and makes that buck a trophy! A big congrats to you, you deserve it! JIM
ScottAdams Report post Posted January 18, 2006 Great buck Jeff! Congtratulations! Are you hooked on Coues yet? Are you still interested in hunting AZ with your bow? I've got a water hole that's getting hit really heavy by at least 3 Coues bucks right now. It's just 2 hours from Silver. Let me know. Scott
huntswnm Report post Posted January 18, 2006 Scott, Thanks a lot. If I can find the funds to get an AZ tag I would definately be interested. Coues hunting is great. I think I was hooked this past summer just doing my scouting. Jeff

Guest AZ>NMcouesaddict Report post Posted January 23, 2006 Wow, Nice buck!! It's been said before, any coues with a bow is a trophy. Sounds like you need to put some time in to have some success with a bow. I've been thinking about the Jan. archery hunt for NM, but there's always something interferring with the dates. I've seen some nice coues here in 15 and figure a stand on the ridges might work. Good job and good shooting.
