Willyhunts2 Report post Posted August 13, 2011 This is my my first post but been reading up on here for the last year or two so figured I will join. Seems like there's a bunch of good people on this foreum. My question is do these thermacells have scent? Have alot of friends that use them and love them but I think they have to have some sort of smell and noise as it burns?

afmalinois Report post Posted August 13, 2011 I have never noticed any noise from mine. They are an absolute lifesaver when the skeeters are out!

gotcoues Report post Posted August 14, 2011 If your having trouble with skeeters, than it's a done deal on the thermacell. They do have a very slight odor and noise, so yes, you're right. I've had deer and turkeys at less than 20 yards many times and they don't seem to spook game in the slightest. They work awesome too! If you happen to purchase one that doesn't light within three clicks, take it back. I have several and one of them was a dud as far as igniting. Also, they take about 5 minutes to start working efficiently, so you might want to light promptly upon arriving to blind or stand if the problem is severe. I was turned on to the thermocell in while hunting in Florida where if you don't have protection from skeeters, they simply carry you away and feed on you until dead and drained. ccran Report post Posted August 20, 2011 Used a Thermacell for the first time today. It worked great. Took a few sweeter bites before it got warmed up. After that I was good to go.

Ron G. Report post Posted August 24, 2011 When I first got mine I couldn't get it to start at higher altitudes (>5,000 ft). Worked great at home, but not at higher altitudes. Have found that by shaking it for 30-60 seconds before pressing the start button gets it to fire up. Have been using mine while sitting and glassing while scouting for my elk hunt and deer hunting last weekend. Worked great on skeeters and flies. moose Report post Posted October 5, 2011 Ron, glad to hear you got yours started but this is a problem with the thermacells. This is from the Q&A section of the thermacell web site: Q: My ThermaCELL device is not working correctly at high elevations. What can I do? A: Unfortunately, most ThermaCELL mosquito appliances and lanterns will not work well at higher elevations. At altitudes above 4,500 feet (above sea level), most units become difficult to start and run. The lower air density causes the problem. If you are having trouble using your ThermaCELL at high elevation, it is probably not a defective appliance, but just a limitation of the product at high elevation. If you plan to use your ThermaCELL only at high elevations, you may be interested in the Mini Mosquito Repellent Lantern – 2006 Model. It functions well at higher altitudes, but must be lit with a match. If you are affected by this altitude product limitation and have no use for your ThermaCELL at lower elevations, you may return the product for a full refund. Email customerservice@thermacell.net or call toll free 1-866-753-3837 for instructions Couldn't use mine this year on my elk hunt, But it works great in the desert for deer! Hope this helps, Matt
Scooter Report post Posted October 11, 2011 I've been using my Thermacell up in the mountains and it works fine. Takes 5-8 presses to get it going, but it lights and works like a charm!
AZP&Y Report post Posted October 11, 2011 I turn mine upside down to get the butane to come out and it lights at "HIGH" elevations... AZP&Y
