elkwrestler Report post Posted August 12, 2011 Headed up to the kiabab on wed for my deer hunt and wanted to see if any of you guys it gals has an experience with elk or buffalo up there. Would I be wasting my money buying a tag? or is there a chance I might be able to harvest an elk or buffalo?
Heat Report post Posted August 13, 2011 Very low elk numbers up there and the buffs are tough to come by but if you have some inside info they are there to be had. I thought about the buff tag for about 5 seconds then reconsidered since Ive never seen one up there and won't have any help if I got one. Good luck if you give it a whirl! BML Report post Posted August 13, 2011 Just talked to my insurance agent up here and he killed a buffalo on his deer hunt a few years ago. They got lucky though. They talked to someone up at Jacob Lake Lodge who had seen the buffalo a couple days prior. They decided to go look around mid day the next day and they were still in the same spot. elkwrestler Report post Posted August 13, 2011 Thanks for the help. Do you guys know if I can buy a tag at Jacobs lake?
Lance Report post Posted August 13, 2011 No you cant get your tags at Jacob Lake. I wouldnt bother with the elk unless you already have some pre scouted and nailed down. The buffalo are around and its a really hard hunt with lots of other pressure from other hunters. but if you know what your doin or hire a guide that does then there is a decent chance for the archery buffalo! But the OTC buffalo tag is for cow or yearling only and will still count against your "Once in a Lifetime" AZ buffalo.... This pic if from the Bab from a couple weeks ago. obviously the date is wrong on the picture.

azoutlaw Report post Posted August 13, 2011 There are elk up there. I know a guy who has a ton of elk pics on trail cams. One herd of cows and they all had calves. Couple nice bulls and a few small ones. Buff are hit or miss. Both are a slim chance but u never know.
