Trail Cams?

Recommended Posts

We are hunting a new unit for Coues this year and were thinking about putting out cams for the first time since we don't usually use them for Muley's. I've been reading some of the forums on here and elsewhere and am kind of having second thoughts. I saw alot of posts with people getting cameras stolen or destroyed. Essentially I'm wondering if it's worth the investment to put them out? I don't want to have to have a 50 lb 1/4" steel plate cover made for each so they aren't stolen. Any thoughts?

There are lots of thing you can do to deter theifs. Most important is placement. I rarely put them on water. If I do I hade them; low in brush. I never point one towards a road if it is a standard flash cam. I prefer to hunt deer where most people wont or wont think they are there. I figure if they people arent hunting there for deer they most likely wont be scouting it either. Amanda also sells some really small cameras that are easy to hide. If I set them up on a mineral or trail, I try and find a place secluded form the human eye. I look for small pockets or benches, people would avoid. People often travel in the path of least resistance. If you have to cross a bunch of down trees or cross a creek that can help. don't count out luck. I pull all of my cams for big weekends too. Keep your fingers crossed and good luck!
