Elkaddict Report post Posted July 27, 2011 Found this bull this AM, appears to have been dead for a few weeks. Horns and ivorys are missing. This is just off the forest road #317 ,3 miles west of Hwy 87. It appears a quad drove off the 317 road to the elk to get the horns. Anybody with any info (perhaps a neighbor showing off a fresh set of velvet antlers?)please contact the G&F hotline at 1-800-352-8700. Whoever did this has surely shown these horns to somebody in the last few weeks. Poachers suck!!

Elkaddict Report post Posted July 27, 2011 was it shot or hit by a vehicle? It was 3 miles from the highway. Didn't see any damage to the body that would indicate hit by a vehicle.

That's the way I feel. I see you're from Happy Jack, so am I. This is getting personal, in our back yard!! People get upset over a stolen trail camera (rightfully so!) everyone should be really pi$$ed at this kind of theft!!

Didn't see any damage to the body that would indicate hit by a vehicle. was there a bullet hole?? Good question, couldn't see one on the up side. As you can see by the pictures he wasn't in great shape with the crows, etc. that had been scavaging. The game and fish were suppose to check it with a metal detector to see if there was anything to recover. Other than that all I can say is it looks like a poached elk to me. I did find a 6" spot of what appeared to be dried blood in the road. The bull was about 50 yards off the road and I couldn't find any other blood between the road and him. oz31p Report post Posted July 28, 2011 it sure sounds like a poatcher. I can't imagine a bull dropping dead 50y from the road during a season they are the most at risk to poatching due to thire lack of fear and feeding in damm near every open area. Azfg should be able to determine the cause of death. If there's any foul play I hope they string them up by their balls...or female equivalent
