Optics Question

Recommended Posts

I bought a pair of the Vortex viper 10x42 last year and I love them,My next purchase I thought was going to be a Vortex spotting scope, but I've been hearing so many good things about the Vortex Kaibab Binos that I am now leaning toward getting them ,and setting them up on a tripod. My question is ,do I still need the spotting scope with this setup or is it overkill to have them both?If I need em both ,I"ll get both, just thinking its more stuff to carry. Thanks for any input.I"m new to this site but have learned so much in a short time, get lots of good info, plus answer alot of questions just by reading the old posts.I was going to ask about a Rifle setup, but I'm kind of a one gun kind of guy,and the old rem 700 in 270 that I have shot for years has served me well,so I guess I"ll stick with it for now, although I have never taken shots like I have been reading about in the 4-5 hundred yard range, but I figure if guys are able to take them with a bow,I should be able to get to a range that I am confident in,Thanks again

Try the 15x's on a tripod, if you think you need more then, go rent a spotter, a few places rent them on the internet. If you decide after lugging the spotter around its worth the money, then buy a spotter. You can always buy a Tripler to attach to your bino's that Jim White makes in Flagstaff that attaches to your binos, you will then have a spotter. I believe the owner/Amanda of the site can help you with that purchase if your interested. This is just from my personal experience, others might disagree or agree. Hope this helps.

Get a vortex nomad scope they are so cheap and light I barely notice when mine is in my pack. Great for a little extra power. A more expensive but great option is a nikon 13-33 power spotter. Try the 15s and see if you need more power first. I have the viper 15s and a Razor hd spotter and love that setup. You will always spend more time behind your binos then spotter so if I could do it again I would get nicer 15's first
