hunterlee Report post Posted July 22, 2011 Whats an impressive size cow? I've got my cow elk hunt coming up and just curious to know what a "big" cow elk is to everyone. I know that people dont brag about cow elk, but I'm just curious to know if anyone has taken a big one?
stanley Report post Posted July 22, 2011 200-350# for most? Maybe 500#? Just guesses..... Suppose an outfitter or butcher might chime in. S.
Crowbait Report post Posted August 2, 2011 Field dressed you are probably looking at and up to 350. There are the exceptions. Try and remove as much weight as you can. Bones that is. Butchers charge for that weight and hunters at times let that weight be mistaken for meat.
firstcoueswas80 Report post Posted August 2, 2011 Shoot the smaller cow... They eat better. Trust me on this one! My brother has a cow tag and he wont be shooting the lead cow!
WHALE Report post Posted August 4, 2011 My brother has a cow tag and he wont be shooting the lead cow! I was told to always shoot the lead cow for pay back on all the times they bust you with the big boys coming to the call behind them
firstcoueswas80 Report post Posted August 4, 2011 Well, that does make a ton of sense for sure! But they arent as tasty to eat.... Although the lead cow I killed when I was 14 was tasty... Or so I recall!
