National Forest NEW Maps

Recommended Posts

As most of you all know National Forest across the country are changing their Travel Management Plans. Below are some links to the PDFs of the NEW maps we have been able to find:

Kaibab NF Williams Ranger District

Kaibab NF Tusayan Ranger District is expected to update everything in August.

Kaibab NF North Ranger District is still reviewing comments & options from what we can find.

Prescott NF East-Half Map

Prescott NF West-Half Map

A decision on the Coconino National Forest Travel Management Rule is expected in Summer 2011 and the Motor Vehicle Use Map to begin enforcement of the Travel Management Rule is expected in December 2011.

Apache Sitgreaves NF was suppose to release their NEW Travel Management Map in March of 2011. We just called them this morning & they don't know when they will be published. You can find the old maps & other information at this link: Apache-Sitgreaves NF Travel Management

Tonto NF Travel Management INDEX map You can pull up the pdf of each individual Zones-Districts on their Travel Management page.

Coronado NF has 3 different temporary pdfs:

Patagonia

Redington

Santa Rita

You can get any of the maps for FREE at the offices. Personally, I realize on some of the NF we had too many roads, but it seems like a lot of red tape to jump through for us hunters. Another issue I have is why aren't all of these maps uniform & published at the same time?

If you have anything to add, feel free chime on in...

From the Kaibab NF map:

Parking along designated Routes

Motor vehicles may be parked up to 30 feet from the

edge of the road surface when it is safe to do so

without causing damage to NFS resources or

facilities, unless prohibited by state law, a traffic sign,

or an order(36CFR261.54).

Motorized dispersed camping is prohibited off

designated routes. Obtain a recreation map from your

USDA-FS office for more information.

So if I read this correctly, travel trailers, RVs, tent trailers and vehicles cannot be more than 10 yards from the road for dispersed camping. What happened to wording for use of the pre-existing sites?

When this was in comment stage everyone I talked to had the attitude that there were to many roads and this was a great thing, once enforcement starts on this there is going to be outrage. I for one am tired of government telling me what not to do.

CEI,

Don't anything about the other maps, but the one you posted has been published for many years and the FS places them out in boxes at trailheads, ohv recreation areas, etc. Don't see any changes to this map anyway, so it doesn't appear to be much of an impact in this one area anyway.

Its just another step to get us out of the woods period. Ten yards off the road? Wait until someones kid gets ran over from someone blazing down a dirt road. It will be great sitting in all the dust created by passing vehicles, quads, and side by sides. They will keep pushing, and we will keep getting pushed down. Honestly, I am not camping ten yards off a road. Thats rediculous.

I suppose it will come down do the enforcer's view on "edge of road surface". Maybe old camp pull out will be road surface in some one's eyes. Its a shame the golden rule wont apply: don't be a dip stick
