Couestracker Report post Posted January 6, 2006 I'm wanting to put in for a cow tag this year, but haven't hunted for elk in NM before. Would anyone help out on units/areas that might let me fill a tag if lucky enough to be drawn? Any help would be appreciated very much. Good luck to all this year. Thanks, CT
COOSEFAN Report post Posted January 6, 2006 I've hunted several units in NM for elk and by far my favorite is 16A. Lots of waterholes, lots of hard-to-get-to spots as well. Great unit for a backcountry hunting experience! Lots of elk, at least by NM standards, and beautiful country. If you draw a tag there, or just want more info, email me. megahunter6969 Report post Posted January 6, 2006 unit 16a is a great unit, you probably would not do bad at all in unit 15 which is closer. If you have no luck, let me know, I have ALOT of cow and bull landowner permits for both of those areas! Which are guarnteed, so you dont have to wait for any draw! The cow tags usually run right around 4 to 5 hundred. Let me know.

I am looking to buy 10 to 15 bull tags for 16a archery, rifle, whatever! Have 1 ranch that possibly will sell all to me plus use of ranch facilities but don't know yet. My dad has the outfitter license but we still have crappy success getting clients drawn, only 2 out of 18 last year. Just curious, JIM
megahunter6969 Report post Posted January 7, 2006 Jim, drop me an email. livehunting@yahoo.com My Nephews and alot of our family use some of the permits depending on our draw success in Az and Ut. But for the most part i sell the permits to anyone who wants to buy them! Drop me an email, and let me know what you would be interested in as far as quanity, price, etc.... P.S. Couestracker, i forgot to tell u, that the majority of the permits are Unit Wide, which means they can be used on the private ranch or on ANY type of public land with in that game unit. For example, if you bought a unit 15 cow tag u could hunt one of the ranches or in the Gila National Forest or on any other piece of public land, AND on any OTHER private land if u have permission! fatfootdoc Report post Posted January 9, 2006 the private land tags that are good for the entire unit require the ranch holding those tags to allow free and unrestricted access to the ranches during the hunt as a condition for allowing the private tag to incorporate the whole unit. The ranches that don't agree with this have tags that are good only for their ranches so be sure to check that before you buy any landowner tags. AG
