azhoundcrazy Report post Posted July 13, 2011 I have a cam I want to set up and try to catch some bear on it to size up some bears! I know of two ponds so far where I have seen a sow and a cub on one pond and one maybe two smaller bears! Im just wondering what guys use to get the most bears on their cam and I can't just set it on the water cuz they are right by the roads. So anyone out there that get lot of bears on their cam would help me would be appreciated! Thanks kyle
gotcoues Report post Posted July 13, 2011 To best of my knowledge you are not aloud to bait bear for any purpose including scouting photos. Best bet is to try and find the trail leading in to water you think they're using. Thieves suck, and leaving your cam at water is probably a really bad idea. If you can find more isolated pockets of water in thick brushy canyons, you'll most likely get bears on your cam and not have to worry so much about the dirtbags. Good luck
bowhuntaz1 Report post Posted July 13, 2011 +1 on the trails. I have only 1 of 3 cameras on water. The rest are about a half mile from the nearest water source on game trails. I have had more and bigger bears on the trails than at the water. Good luck. Cant wait to see your pics
BML Report post Posted July 13, 2011 Get into the nearby canyons and look for trails heading in and out. Bears that use the same path regularly will leave a beaten down path! Hang one on on that trail and you'll get pictures. Here's an example. This particular trail came out of the bottom of a nasty canyon with a spring. The trail split and went right out and up onto a little grassy bench area that was covered with bear crap. You can see the well beaten trails even in the night picture.
