bignmjim Report post Posted July 2, 2011 Hey everyone... I was wondering what everyones thoughts would be on the overlap of coues and mule deer territory??? I drew a non burros 23 coues tag in new mexico. I've been on the scout and I'm finding quite a few muleys but no coues. Obviously i'm in the wrong spot because there aren't any coues there, but this is my first time coues hunting and was wondering if I should be heading out when I find muleys... I'd appreciate any advice!
DesertBull Report post Posted July 2, 2011 Try going a little higher. While Coues do hang out in lower elevations,(mesquite, saguaro, palo verde) the higher concentrations will be above 3500 ft and in the juniper, oaks, pines. They also tend to favor rougher terrain than desert mule deer. Deep canyons, steep and long ridges, etc.

Coach Report post Posted July 2, 2011 PM me, I know of a little "island" in 23 that has some really nice coues mixed in with the muleys and elk. I'll have to dig through my maps, but if you find a coues in there, it will probably be a really good one.
