December Unit 31

Recommended Posts

I was lucky enough to draw a unit 31 December whitetail tag this year. On the second day of my hunt I was hiking about three or so miles from my fourwheeler, I had my two boys one is 6 the other is 4 they were going to wait at the four wheeler with my father in-law while I took a short hike I wasn't really going to get excited because I still had so many days to hunt. Well about three miles in to my hike I spotted a real nice buck guessing he is about 105 as I started to try to move closer for a shot another nice buck jumped up about fifty yards from him and got him all stirred up. As the bucks began moving up the hill I got ready for a shot the bigger buck being in the lead they ran behind a big bush well as they ran out the other side I shot but the bigger of the bucks was no longer in the front I dropped the smaller of the two bucks like a fly with my 300 W-mag. In disgust with myself I hiked over to see my buck as I walked closer I realized that even though I shot the wrong one I still shot a really nice buck 14 1\2 inch spread and heavy some where in the ninetys. I started dressing out my deer and dragging him through the rough terrain back to the fourwheeler. Exhausted and nearly dark I got near where we were parked as I got closer I could no longer drag this heavy bodied deer. Well I seperated him in two pieces. The kicker to my story is that when I finally got the whole deer back to the fourwheeler I realised that both of my younger boys got to see there dad get a nice buck and they were amazed they didnt care about score or Antler mass they just enjoyed the overall experience. Man that is a great feeling and made it all all worth while for me.If you have the opportunity to take youre kids with you sometimes it is worth it trust me they will remember this forever. I dont have any pics except the ones on my phone and my rack is at Les Hendrixs Taxidermy I let him have the cape if anyone knows how to download pics off the phone my E-Mail is katobarker@yahoo.com

Thanks.

Congrats on your buck. That sort of thing happens more often then you think. Its called excitement!!!!! I am really glad you get excited or what the heck is the point. I started taking my kids hunting actually before they could walk! My son is still to this day my favorite hunting buddy. I think you are definitely on the right track. Try to post some pictures when you can. Good luck and Happy New Year.

P.S. I bet the kids will like those steaks too!

Congrats on a sucessful hunt.I'm sure your kids will always remember going hunting with their dad. A 90 incher is a trophy in my book and sharing the hunt with your kids makes it that more special. Good job.

Great job!

I don't know about your phone but on mine, you hit send (like sending a text message) then select your e-mail (which you have added like a normal contact) then send it. If you want, PM me, and you can send the photo to my phone, then we can get some photos!

CRB,

That's a dandy buck. When you see that much bone I can see where a guy could make a mistake.
