jeffcros Report post Posted June 30, 2011 Some are $100 some $200 whatever, if there are people in the woods with the equipment to take a lag bolted, bear box off of a tree 3/4 mile in the woods.... do you think they are going to have a pistol with them???? So if you walk up on someone cutting down your camera, are you gonna stop them? I would say some thing to them but is it worth a fistfight, gunfight, whatever??? There are always a W and a L. I think I can handle my own but there are plenty of people out there that can make short work of me. No doubt... Thats why when I put my cams out they are IN there, AWAY from the road, I make someone work for it. I know I will not catch someone stealing my cams. If I do it will be a miracle. I do carry a pistol when I go into the woods... If I saw someone taking a cam I would yell, swear, and try to make them stop but unless they threatened me or mine I'm not going to worry about a $80 Camera.( If you spend more than that on a camera, thats up to you..) Thats my opinion, maybe you guys that are like detectives can catch these guys that make guys like us ornery... Good Luck! It would be nice to have a forest all to ourselves but fact is that there are idiots everywhere, No respect for others, no respect for the chase! Thats my .02 I dont think anyone was talking about shooting anyone I think it is just a piece of mind thing not to be violent in anyway unless like u said if they walk up on someone cutting down there camera then I can maybe see there being a problem but don't think there will be any gun fire. And some cameras are much more then 100 dollars. I think they would prob just post the pics on this website and let it be known that these people are thiefs that's if they get a pic of them stealing the other camera they have set up. But to be honest if I saw someone taking one of my cameras I am sure I would be thinking about woopin some butt.Cuz I don't think I could just stand there and watch. And they def are not cheap

oz31p Report post Posted July 1, 2011 i use cameras. no locks no boxes. theres theives out every year with cordless grinders. thats all it take to cut open most any box or treestand cable. every time i leave a camera in the wilderness i consider it gone, and im surprised when i return that is still there. ive only had picture of people twice. but i never rehang camera in a spot that ive taken picture of other humans. at the time of this writeing i have 2 cameras out. ive only came across 1 camera in all my travels. and that was at a spot where a quad trail dead ended pointing at a small medal cow tank. it was barely off the road. i could have ran it over with my quad it was so close to the road. Coach Report post Posted July 1, 2011 I'm about 90% done with a box I built for a new Covert CA 3.0 I just bought from Amanda. Great little camera. I'll start a new thread about the construction of the box, but at this point, I think it's safe to say, anyone who wants to steal this one is gonna have to cut down the tree it's attached to, and haul out a decent chunk of tree. Even then, they'll probably destroy the camera to get it out. Looking forward to constructive criticism of the build, since I'll be building more in the days to come.
