help me to hunt coues deer

I must admit I would like to try & hunt coues deer this Jan. I will be hunting Mulies in 36a, please give me some advice on these deer. I hunted them twice in my life in 1984 &1994, with no luck!

There are several effective methods to hunt coues deer. I think there was a post last year that had quite a few different tactics. My personal favorite is the called the white flag method. You will need a 3-4 foot pole with a triangular white flag attached to the end. Sit down in your favorite camping chair on a well traveled game trail and make doe bleat sounds while shaking the flag in short, jerky motions. This will undoubtedly draw a coues buck into bow range. They are very curious animals. Make sure to pour a little doe in heat scent onto the flag. As the buck nears bow range, drop the flag and begin grunting (so as not to loose his attention) as you draw back. His curiosity will overcome his desire to flee.

Don't do it I am telling you stay away from the coues bug. It will change you for ever. And besides there are no coues deer left for hunting anyways.

Coues Obsession would be a good analogy of the bug you could catch if you get started.

Spot and stalk sucess with coues is possible but unlikley. It took the best hunter I know 20 years to sucessfully spot and stalk a coues. Your best bet is to put up a treestand or a blind near a good trail intersection. It could take a while to find a good coues trail. A game cam would be a big help. Your hunt could take months, with 99% of that time finding just the right spot. The good news is that coues usually stick to the same trails, with some aborations during the rut.

Thank you bow sniper for the info I have done stand hunting for mulies on the Kaibab, I just wonder if I have the time to be a successful Coues hunter, because mulies are in my blood!!

I think thats great advice as I just watched Willie & Billie on Jeff Foxworthy's return of incomplete deer hunter 2, I think this coues deer hunting is gonna be a breeze!!!!

it is possible for coues to be spot and stalked with a bow. last year my dad and i glassed up the biggest buck eithe rone of us had seen ( about 95) my dad within 20 yards of the buck, but him and his doe moved from where they originally were and my dad didnt know this as we forgot the radios. if we had the radios in 99% sure he could have got an arrow in that bucks vital zone!
