AZLance Report post Posted June 20, 2011 These pictures are of Ramanote and Peck Canyons in 36B. This fire burned very hot and the area is way worse than I expected. It looks like the moon in some areas... And to top this off for 36B, a new fire started yesterday south of Tres Bellotas Ranch and is growing very fast. AZLance Report post Posted June 20, 2011 I have seen alot of fires, and actually used to work on wildland fires, and what shocked me was how little green there was actually left. You had to hunt for green patches, usually when a fire burns there are unburned green patches left. This fire was so hot, there are almost no unburned islands. azslim Report post Posted June 21, 2011 Lance, several flights were made over the fire and 2 of the guys, the Type 3 IC and a guard from the Douglas DOC crew, were hunters. I hit them up on what they saw, lots of deer in the unburned pockets, more water than they would have imagined in hidden tanks (man-made and natural). Figured if I didn't get the tag I put in for I could pick up a left-over for 36B. Just going to have to walk a ways to find game, and if the country gets some decent rain it will green right up. azslim Report post Posted June 21, 2011 The start of the Murphy fire was in Coronado NF in the bowl that Murphy Well is in behind Bear Grass Tank, the Pajarito fire was started down along the border south of the Murphy and burned up to the 39 Rd (Ruby Road). I have the maps from the incident showing the starting locations of both. Don't know if the news reported it but there were Mexican hand crews fighting the fire south of the border, we didn't send any hand crews across but our air assets worked with them to get a handle on it. The team was worried the fire south of the border would work it's way west then turn north into unburned fuels. We had 3 contingency lines prep'd were that to happen. PRDATR Report post Posted August 4, 2012 Grass and weeds are 3' high Good to hear that I have been hoping that there would be some browse sprouting up so the wildlife have something.
