Oklahoma coming to hunt in January

Recommended Posts

The hunt will take place east of Tucson, any hints would be appreciated. Primarilly, we will be bowhunting. Can you hang tree stands any where or is it just good ol' sneaking around? thanks.

Where you from Okie?

Reading this forum for a while and staying quiet will be your best advice. Read Amanda's, Scott A's, coueselk, Josh E., threads....they know quite a bit. As Bowhuntinmaniac said, you had better be bowhunting ONLY, not just PRIMARILY. -Shiras

Shiras, Thanks for the advice. It sounds like this can be a vicious forum. I am from Devol (HWY70 and I44 down near the Texas line). Anyway I have a brother who lives in Tucson, I was just trying to stir up some interest. This is quite the site, these coues grow to be some monsters judging by the pics I have seen. I am aware of the bow season, sorry for the misleading info. Are the piggys legal to kill or is there a season on them also? Looks like good country for putting the sneak on some critters. Anyways I am looking forward to matching witts with the deer and maybe some these Arizona hunters.HAHAHA GO LONGHORNS and it looks like OU put the smackdown on the mighty Ducks.

Not vicious at all! This is just about the best site around with the most helpfull good hearted folks around.

AZGFD.com is a good place to start. The Javi hunts are on draw though, if you don't have a tag the above mentioned web site might have some left over tags I hear. If you can't get a tag go out and enjoy the desert and take a few coyotes which are always fun.

Are you a Texas transplant living up North of the border?

I have to admit, I am not a UT fan, but they are representing the Big 12. I'll definately be rooting for them although taking on the Leinart/Bush/White trilogy looks like a daunting task at best. After the Notre Dame game, I think it was just their destiny to win #3. -Shiras

Okie,

Of ALL the forums out there this one is the best! There is honest good feedback and as with any forum, occassional sparring and good fun!

In PEDERSON's Bowhunting issues dated Jan/Feb 2006 it has an article titled

"JAVELINA WINTER FUN"

It's a good introduction to hunting out west and what you can expect , along with a mandatory gear list. It could help make your trip a success and much more pleasant. The desert can be big change for some folks. The only thing the article was a bit misleading was the Jan weather, which CAN be nice, but can also be cold, wet and windy *just not this year so fAr!

If your brother lives in Tucson, you're less than an hour from some of the best pig hunting around.

Good Luck -Arizona Pope & Young

I recently spent two days scouting East of Tucson. I saw 76 Coues deer and 28 of them were bucks! There was some good rutting going on! Can't wait for January!

Get where you can glass (on tripods)and team up with radios. Watch out for mexican nationals. Shoot strait and hunt harder, smarter and sneakier than you have ever hunted before! And thats just for the Carp deer. (mule deer). If you want to jump strait into Coues hunting, your best bet is to hire a guide. Good luck! :P

I sure haven't cruised all the site, yet but it does seem to be straight up. I have noticed that ya'll aren't afraid of sharing secrets and that is way cool. I happen to run on to a guy named Scott's info quite a bit, ya' ll should rename the site for him. He should be writting for a major publcation, but that would interfere with his real job of hunting. Ernesto was right, first thing I did was fire up the "other woman" to check out the site. Thanks for the feedback. You don't have to have a license to kill piggys out here, as a matter of fact we were coon hunting over some soured wheat that a farmer dumped out (coons love the wheat and so do the piggys) when all of a sudden 3 Javies showed up and they were Mad as a Jap, chased us back on top of the truck with the dogs under the truck. It was quite a sight. We are right north of the red river (5 miles). I have a pic of a hog whitetail that was killed half a mile from where I bow hunt. It is not a Coues but none the less it is a "toad'. Fess up an email and someone can post it on here. (non-typical and close to 300 green score, 284 I think)

Happy New Year Coues' fanatics! Ernesto, those piggies were javalina which in surprise, are starting to show up more and more. We have a surplus of wild hogs and the farmers want 'em evicted. Access is real easy to get especially if you know people. If you are up for some good stand or stalk hunting, it won't cost a dime but for the gas to come out. Our deer season for "toads" ended 31 Dec. but does are open for 2 more weeks. What is Amandas' email? You have to see this deer, the picture does no justice. I saw it the day he killed it and almost went into vapor lock, talk about buck fever. That deer was graveyard dead in the back of the truck and still made my knees wobly. Cabelas has offered him a small retirement settlement to display it on their wall at Oklahoma City. I am counting the days to my departure so please give me Amandas' email and once again, Happy New Year to everybody.
