couesdiehard Report post Posted June 17, 2011 Hey all, I got curious and started crunching some numbers. Remember 640 acres = 1 square mile Here's some numbers to put into perspective the size of our wildfires to date. Wallow Fire = 495,016 acres = 773 sq. miles Horseshoe 2 Fire = 184,198 acres = 288 sq. miles Murphy Complex Fire = 68,078 = 106 sq. miles Monument Fire = 18,570 = 29 sq. miles Total for the big 4 fires = 765,862 acres = 1197 sq. miles City of Phoenix = 475 sq. miles City of Scottsdale = 184 sq. miles City of Mesa = 108 sq. miles Total for these three cities = 767 sq. miles That's unbelievable man! The Wallow Fire alone is bigger than Phoenix, Scottsdale and Mesa combined! And it's only June 17th? By the way, did you notice all the vendors that are legally selling fireworks for the 4th of July? Pretty amazing that our State legislature thought it was a good idea to legalize fireworks to the public in the middle in one of the most arid states in the country. Someone should go start a big bonfire under the palm trees at the State Capital and shoot off a bunch of fireworks on the 4th, it would be nice to see how well BS burns! couesdiehard
