Need some help...

Recommended Posts

Looking for some good advice and maybe a good eye doctor to see for a good precise perscription. I have an astigmatism in my right eye (my dominant eye) which effects me being able to see my sights on guns and pins on my bow. I dont need glasses on a day to day basis, mainly just for shooting. I have glasses but they still do not make the correction that i would imagine i should be able to get. so my questions would be as follows:

1. Contacts or Glasses?

2. Any recommendations to good eye doctors around the valley?

3. Do Peep Lenses work?

Any information from anyone would be very helpful.

Thanks to all in advance.

Welcome to the world of getting older.I went to a peep verifier on my bow last year, before my pins were fuzzy, any time of day, any distance. now my pins are crisp and clear. its a peep sight with a lense, its made by Specialty Archery. great web sight, hope this helps, good luck.

I have been wearing soft contacts for most of my life. I am literally blind without them. I can do everything with them, except open my eyes while underwater. Your astigmatism complicates things, but in the last few years contacts have come out that correct astigmatism if it is not too bad. An eye doc would need to test you. I would see an optometrist over an ophthalmologist. An ophthalmologist is an MD, but optometrists have much more experience fitting glasses and contacts.

My doc is Neha Amin at http://www.advanced-vision.org/our-team . She is very good at fitting contacts and glasses. But, I do not buy my glasses there, the glasses technician stinks. Hope this helps.

I have 20/800 vision (dam^ near blind) with an astigmatism in both eyes. Both eyes are very close to the same. I wear contacts most of the time. Currently they make soft lenses to correct astigmatisms. With the strength range of my contacts I only half 1/2 strength increments to choose from. I really need 1/4 size for optimum vision. This sucks for me as most eye doctors want to put you in the next size down. I finally talked mine into giving me the next stronger for my right eye. I shoot very well with my contacts. It sounds like if you dont need corrective lenses all the time you may be in the range of having 1/4 strength increments available to you. As long as I use lenses for astigmatism my vision is pretty clear and sharp.

As far as glasses, I shoot ok with them as long as my bow sight is a pin set up. When I shot competition freestyle using a scope lense I could NOT make any combination of lense or peep clarifier work for crap.

Talk to your eye doctor and explain your needs and requirments. If he cant or wont work with you, find a new one. They should let you try different lenses right there in their office. I know one up here who let a guy bring his bow into the office to test different lenses.

Unfortunately, I dont know any eye doctors in the valley.

Hope that helps.
