.270 Report post Posted June 6, 2011 this is sickening. someone correct me if i'm wrong, when i was up in nover skosher i read somewhere that when this fire started the forest circus elected to just watch it for a couple days because they said they thought it would burn itself out. is that a true statement? i know they ain't ever gonna own up to it, even if it is true. but did they actually make that statement? talked to my cousin's wife last night. the fire has started going south now too, and has come over the rim and is going down the canyons into dry prong, warren canyon and onto the rez. .270 Report post Posted June 6, 2011 i guess they were right, but i don't think they meant for it to burn to utah, before it burned itself out. it's time to get real mean with the forest circus. this BS has gone on way too long, with no accountability or responsibility by the forest circus. they are either burning things up by starting "prescribed" burns when it is completely stupid to do it, or letting things get so brushed up and not allowing logging and other things that will improve things, to sitting on their sorry asses when a fire starts. i honestly believe the united states forest service does these things intentionally to cause as much destruction as they can in order to force folks off of the land. i really hope none of the fire fighters get hurt. but it wouldn't bother me one bit if some their decision makers got turned to ashes. this is pure bull$h!t. and mark my words, they won't allow one board foot of lumber to be salvaged from this fiasco either. they'll let a couple anti outfits, that they are in bed with, hold it up in court for a year and logs get blue and can't be used. But they are still logging and doing thinnings the rodeo/chisc fire they did do alot of logging on that one.. and tonto national forest has been doing alot of thinning..each divison has its own manager..and some our better than other..odviously with this situation..I willing to bet someone at apache sitgrieves is gonna get in trouble for this one. Frustrated as it is we can do all the finger pointing we want..I want the dummy that started it... I have friends working on that fire..and may they stay safe and all those little towns be saved..been thier done that and it is alot of stress the rodeo/chis fire took my uncles cain and my grand parents got lucky with a 1/2 mile ..so feel for those on this one..sucks.. BML Report post Posted June 6, 2011 Lark, If you seriously think that the Forest Service makes the decisions to let things get brushed up or not allow logging you are not well informed. All the tree hugging hippy a-holes are the ones making those decisions. The beurocratic red tape is a mile long every time the FS wants to plan a prescribed burn. Logging is the same. If there's an ant the might lose a home because of logging those hippy idiots will spend millions of dollars to put an end to it. That's the #1 reason the eastern part of the state is as thick and nasty as it it. There's dozens of years of fire suppression over there that has just been waiting to light up and become a catastrophe like it has now. If indeed they decided to sit on this fire, I will agree, it was a bonehead thing to do. Similar to lifting the fire restrictions before the memorial day holiday. I can't say that everyone in the upper echelons of the FS is bright, but I think overall the men and woman of the FS do a fantastic job protecting the resources that you, I and everyone else enjoy so much. I just think they get a lot of bad rap for crap that they really have no control over. Remember, most of those same "idiots" with the forest "circus" are the men and woman on the ground right now saving entire towns from going up in flames. azrcks Report post Posted June 6, 2011 I do not want to add to the finger pointing but I heard some news from my buddy in Alpine that a group from the Alpine fire crew were on their way to help fight the fire when it started and they were stopped by the forest service and actually had a confrontation when the forest service said they could not go in because it would "just burn itself out". They told me personally that the FS did not want this much energy spent here again for many years." So in other words, burn it all so they do not have to worry about fire soon again??? What a messed up mind set of the FS admin. On the Warm Fire on the North Kaibab, I was told the decision was made to let it burn east of the highway 67 (rather than try to stop it at the highway) since there were plans to do a controlled burn on the east side. Ihave been workin 14 days straight and putting in long hours tryin to save this country we need to quit blammin and pray and hope no firefighters get hurt and no one loses there homes. The problem is that there should be no reason to close areas down if the forest were managed correctly. Ok well maybe during the dryest times a closure is in order but the fact that dumb eco-elite hippys are stopping what truly needs to be done is unreal to me. The simple fact is we are here, people live in those mountains and they aren't going to leave! That isn't Yellowstone up there. Its inhabited by humans and they need to manage it as such.
