Bill you have a beautiful place up there and I know it holds a special place in your heart. My prayers are with you and those battling the blaze.

bill, i'm happy you're out of there and safe. the firefighters are working their butts off to save your homes. they've closed ranks and are truly fighting this sorry thing. they'll keep the flames away. we've got a busload of folks who evacuated heading to our place here in creen queek to ride it out until they can go back. my son is getting married in oakland this weekend and as soon as i'm back i'll head to eagle creek to see what can be done to help out there. the fire is going down squirrel canyon toward saunders cabin now. they did send in a crew to try to keep it away. God bless everyone affected by this sad deal. Lark.

Adam and Bill, in watching the webcam from Molly Butler, no flames were noticed yesterday. If there were guys on the ground on the ridge above east fork, they did a heck of a job keeping it out of the valley yesterday.

389,000 acres. Much of the growth yesterday was backfires. They had a good evening and night, the weather calmed a bit and they were able to hit it hard around Greer and Eagar. Hopefully today's wind will not be as bad as predicted. Yesterday it ran hard toward greer, getting to within 1.3 miles, but was held at that point.

This was a comment made on wmicentral.com, so take it as heresay for what is may be worth in terms of accuracy:

"I spoke with a firefighter who is on down time from the Wallow Fire. He told me that the fire was initially considered a "wilderness" fire and that no crews were sent in until Monday. When the crews did arrive they were told that they could not use their dozer to cut line because there were two dens of wolf pups in the area that officials did not want disturbed. He also said that the Big Lake area has been "moonscaped" and that it is unrecognizable. He told me that the ground in some spots had been fused into glass and that, with this kind of heat, even the 200 year old Ponderosa's, even if they did not suffer a crown fire, could not survive."

I just received this mornings IR map. It places the size at 336,000. Not sure where channel 3 news came up with the 389,000.

well that's just great. billion$ in damage. a forest that will be decades recovering. homes lost. lives distrupted. people terrorized and worried sick. all for a few wolf/dog currs that won't ever be a wild animal. thanks a lot. i sincerely hope the wolves got burned up and hope it was painful. Better news related this morning regarding Big Lake (was postd on AZSJ):

"Well, here is the latest news from the district ranger here in springerville. He was at big lake today. All buildings are standing at the store and campgrounds. The recreation area is holding up great. The OPS guys are setting up fire camp at Big Lake/Crescent lake and also putting in a Helo base camp there too. Could you guys please pass this info along. We are getting alot of mis-information out there. Even though the fire map shows were are in the red, that does not show what EXACT parts have burned. We are hearing it straight from the source."

Sounds like good news in regards to big lake then. Glad to see someone is spilling the beans about what is going on. Seemed latley info was being held back.

Glad to hear Big Lake store is still standing along with the campground. Hopefully they can keep the fire from burning west toward Mt. baldy and Sunrise Resort. It looks like the north part of the fire is moving pretty good, anybody have reports on how active the west side of the fire is? I've seen multiple news stations reporting that the fire has grown to 389,000 acres or 607 sq miles as of today, but I'm not sure how accurate that number is.
