reloader 22

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I use reloader 22 for my 264 win mag. I bought a new pound from sportman's and I finding that the new pound seems to shoot totally different than the older stuff I have. The cases have powder residue all the way to the rear of the case. The accuracy is not the same and the shot sounds different. I haven't changed my dies at all and other powders shoot the same as they always have. My older reloader 22 seems to shoot the same as it did before. I have tried the load a few times and the results are the same. The new stuff seems totally different from the older powder.

Any ideas?

I was reading that people were having the same issues with H1000.

Powders can vary from lot to lot in their burning rate and I have read that R22 is more prone to this than others. Do you have access to a chronograph to compare the velocity of the old load vs. the new? You may need to adjust the charge weight to get the same velocity and accuracy.

R22 is my favorite .270 powder and I buy 5 pound jugs to help avoid this sort of problem.

I use RE22 for my 280AI all the time but have not seen this. I have seen slight variances from lot to lot on powder but never anything huge like you are describing. I just opened a new 5 lb keg a few weeks ago and did not notice anything different. I shoot long range with the 280AI so I would notice if my accuracy fell off.

Not sure what this could be, maybe just a batch or lot issue?
