out4blood Report post Posted May 14, 2011 Has anyone seen or shot a muley during the early archery season that has rubbed off its velvet? I'll be hunting up north this year and want to know my chances of seeing bucks with hard horn. Thanks
jwdodge01 Report post Posted May 15, 2011 All of the bucks I saw were in velvet all the way to mid september, but there is always a chance to catch one that rubs it off early.

azpredator@work Report post Posted June 17, 2011 I shot a buck in Kaibab in 2006 that was hard horned and dark brown already from rubbing. That was the first week of september.

Sir Buckwheat Report post Posted June 21, 2011 Some rub off early, I see bucks almost every year that are hard horned during the early part of archery season here in Utah. One thing is if you don't like the velvet you can always have it stripped off and the antlers stained. I had that done to an elk I killed a few years ago, it looks nice. I wanted to keep the velvet since I love velvet antlers but it was already starting to loosen and wouldn't have worked out. Good luck on your hunt!
