TLH Report post Posted December 22, 2005 Went back up to Squaw Peak yesterday and hunted the entire day with out seeing a deer--at least not a Coues. I did see a cow and calf elk and then i glassed up a monster 7 point bull elk! He had his left side busted at the brow tine but the other side was long and he had good mass--the points weren't that long so i would guess he is an old bull. Wish i would have had a tag for bull elk yesterday!!

TLH Report post Posted December 23, 2005 Terry,Have you done any hunting or scouting where the fire went through. Have the deer moved back in? Quail? Doug~RR <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Doug, I found a lot of quail while hunting the burns. I found the most behind that big water hole about two miles in off of I-17. We also saw two mulies rutting back in there and my hunting buddy missed a bedded buck at 35 yards--he thought the buck would get up and look to see what the noise was but the buck never even looked--he just jumped up and ran! Higher up on Bloody Basin Road i found great deer sign where the burn was and noted that the deer were eating the charcoal off of the tree's--there were good numbers of quail there too.
