bchoitz Report post Posted December 13, 2005 A friend of mine from work has two kids with a 6A Whitetail tag for the December hunt, and 2 other kids with a 3B? Elk tag. (He has 5 kids?) Anyway, he says he "goofed" when he submitted the application for the deer tags, and has never seen a whitetail in Unit 6A. I'm not very familiar with the south part of this unit, and was hoping for a little help on what area's of 6A actually had populations of whitetails. Fossil Creek? West Clear Creek? Wet Beaver creek? Any help on this would be appreciated. Thanks, Bret
COOSEFAN Report post Posted December 14, 2005 I don't think there's a canyon in 6A that doesn't have whitetails. I like everything around and in West Clear Creek. Can get into some big stuff though, no problem seein' a bunch of deer, but killin' one is a different story in a lot of 6A. Look not far off of General Crook Highway just out of Camp Verde heading east. You'll probably see several vehicles pulled off the highway during the hunt, and there's reasons why! I can't remember specific road #'s but take any road off the highway before you get past the powerlines, and glass. There's some easier country for kids, that you can see from the highway, and there is deer there. But any of the big, bad canyons in 6A, have the big, bad Whitey's! Best of luck to the kids!!!! bchoitz Report post Posted December 14, 2005 Thank you Coosfan, and everyone else who responded by PM. I think he will have a better chance with the help you have given. He is very successful hunter, and his kids have also been pretty successful, so I think he will at least find them. He has hunted elk in that unit alot, and has seen alot of MULE deer, and thought he was putting in for mulie hunt. He was a bit concerned when he noticed it was a Whitetail hunt they had. bchoitz Report post Posted January 10, 2006 Thanks to all those who replied to my call for help. Niether of the kids tagged an animal, one of them even went so far as to go to California with his Girlfriends family for the new year! Well, I remember when I had those priorities as well Anyway, they did see some Whitetails, but the distance was too far for them to stalk. Thanks for the help.
