AZ Camping spots

Recommended Posts

My church has a Father and Son's campout coming up in June. I am in charge of picking the location and the activities. Does anyone know of a great camping area that 50 or so people could be comfortable? Water is a plus but trees are a must. I am looking for an area in the woods not a pay per night camp ground.

Thank you from a Cousewhitetail.com a fan!!!

Does your group want to travel very far? Pinal peak, or the pioneer pass camp area just outside of globe has been our father and sons camp area. It has thick pines, and nice weather. No water but hey, its az! You can also look at the mount lemmon camp areas, like pepper sauce camp ground, and that had a creek if I remember right.

Workman's Creek / Aztec Peak area, water to splash in, falls to visit, cliff dwelling to visit if you know where to go, old homesteads to hike to and if you camp up on top rather than the campground there is plenty of room for the boys to roam.

Near Blowout Tank west off the Willard Springs I-17 exit north of Munds Park. (Flagstaff Archers is holding a 3D shoot there on June 25-26)

Ward Camp on FR700 north of Munds Park.

June is the time of year when there are fire restrictions or forest closures.

Don't do Mormon crossing by ord. Every ward in the valley is using that spot.

I think most of the rim is a PITA with camping spot fees and other BS like max camp size etc it seems. I personally like going up towards Happy Jack. Its more laid back and no one out there to bother you as you play. Just my $.02

We just had our father/son camp out a couple weeks ago. We had ours up by the Thompson Draw Bear Flat area. Everyone had a good time. Some of the boys froze but they survived. Workman Creek is another good spot. We had ours there two years in a row. If your coming from Buckeye you may want to find something up off the 17. Both areas I talked about aren't bad for me but I live on the east side. Good luck and I'm sure it will be fun no matter where you have it.
