azhuntnut Report post Posted April 28, 2011 I am considering going to a single pin sight with the dial on the side for longer shots. Has anybody had any experience with these? Would you recommmend any particular manufacturer? David
azcouesandelk Report post Posted April 28, 2011 It can be a pain to adjust especially if you come up over a rise and you have your pin set for 40 yards thinking that is going to be how far he is and he ends up being 20. You can look at some site companies like sureloc, spott hogg or even copper john and get a multiple pin sliding sight, that way you can have your 20 through 40, 50 or 60 and use your bottome pin for any longer shots with the slide. silencedmajority Report post Posted April 28, 2011 I like mine, got a javelina with one back in January. I use an HHA Optimizer. The pin is really bright, the whole thing is very sturdy out of machined parts, but heavy. It is awesome at the range. In the field I tend to set it at a given yardage (30) and know where I will have to aim to hit vitals at 20 or 40 from my practice at the range. In my experience and with my bow, I don't need to move much up or down. But at the range, I can move the slider and it is very, very accurate.

I tend to agree with him...I've tried 7 pin sights and man that is a lot to tune out when you have a shot on an animal, even if you practice a lot. I also tried an HHA single pin slider for target and 3D...personally I couldn't get used to it but lots of guys swear by them. I think if your bow shoots fast and you can set it at 30 or so and know how to gap high/low it would be good for most hunting situations, especially if you hunt out of a blind or stand. I have a new bow on order and along with it I'm going to try a Montana Black Gold Ascent...it has 5 pins and the bottom one is a floater that can be adjusted for long shots. I think it will be the best of both worlds with 20-60 yard pins for hunting and the option to dial it up if I want to have fun at the range with a long shot. If you want to try single pin out, PSE makes an affordable one as does HHA...the Sur Locs are nice but pricey!
Redman Report post Posted April 29, 2011 I have a Sur Loc with 3 pins set at 20, 30 and 40. The 40 yd pin becomes the "slider pin" from 40 out to 120 yds. It can be adjusted in 2 yd increments. Takes about 3 seconds to range adjust and draw.... the only way I would go back to a true fixed pin is if the mountable rage finder (Vendetta) becomes easier or more practical to use. cohofishing Report post Posted April 30, 2011 Hi, I use the G-5 sight. I love it. It has 3 fixed sights and a movable last sight. I use 20, 30, 40, and the moveable pin at 50-80 in five yard marks. Works well for what I do. Brent

azhuntnut Report post Posted May 9, 2011 I ended up getting the HHA since I was mostly going to be using it for Antelope this season. I will give an update when I get it mounted and use it a bit. Thanks for the feedback. David
coues hunter Report post Posted May 12, 2011 I've hunted with a single pin movable sight for 8 years now and love it. I've been burned in the past guessing yardages, shooting wrong pins, gapping pins or holding over/under. I try to eliminate as many variables as possible and having a single pin set to the yard is the easiest way to arrow a big buck. that said, I'm considering using a multiple pin set up elk hunting this year knowing that shot distances on a called in bull can change in an instant. But for spot and stalk bowhunting you cant beat a single pin.
