yotebuster Report post Posted April 27, 2011 Took my wall tent out for its maiden voyage this weekend. I've got a cabelas one with a tent material type floor in it but I can see already that it'd be nice to have some type of flooring in it. I'm looking for some ideas, perhaps someone is got new carpet and has some chunks of the old stuff left? Not looking to cover the whole floor I don't think, just because it'd be tough to haul that much around, but maybe a couple small pieces for entry way/sleeping area? Any other ideas out there? I looked on craigslist for remnants, but they want more money for the little chunks then you can have someone come and lay the stuff for! Thanks in advance! assassin Report post Posted April 27, 2011 Astro-turf or some other sort of outdoor, lightweight carpet works great. Cut it just wide enough to lay between two cots and the length of the tent. You can just role it up with your tent and you're good to go.
azslim Report post Posted April 27, 2011 I bought painters drop cloths from Home Depot for my tents, throw them in the washing machine when they get dirty and a lot cheaper than the flooring Cabela's sells for their tents, plus sturdier from what I can tell. I use a 10x10 in my 12x12 Outback Lodge and a 12x14 in my Bighorn. It doesn't need to go edge to edge, just cover the center where the foot traffic is. I use indoor outdoor carpet in my wall tent, if you watch for it to go on sale, it is pretty reasonable. Kevin
elkhunter Report post Posted April 28, 2011 it seems like everyone is getting tile these days and getting rid of carpet. If you make a posting on craigslist regarding buying carpet or turf I am sure you'll have a seller within a few hours of posting in the phoenix area. I have two friends who ripped out carpet in their house and looking to sell, you can certainly find a person in the phoenix area looking to sell even a portion of their carpet/turf! tjhunt2 Report post Posted April 28, 2011 I never had a problem finding carpet before the hunt. I would ask around and I always found someone who knew someone getting new and I never cared what the color was. I'ld throw it away right after the hunt. Never had to pay a penny. pwrguy Report post Posted April 29, 2011 I use an old canvas tarp mostly. However...an old piece of indoor carpet works fine as well, even a used one. I would find a carpet layer and see if you can score some for free.
singleshot Report post Posted April 29, 2011 Some Bonehead left a 12 x 14 or so piece of white carpet at a fire ring up on Noble Mountain. It seemed like the melting snow cleaned it up pretty good. I put down a nylon tarp in my wall tent and over that I throw down a piece of indoor / outdoor carpet thats cut to fit. It's 12 x 17 so it's kind of bulky and heavy when rolled up but dry's fast if it gets wet and is indestructible.

BASS Report post Posted April 30, 2011 Harbor Freight sells canvas drop cloths for pretty cheap. And they are thick enough that I made a bed roll out of them, sewed some fasteners to it and it's held up amazingly well.

coueshunter Report post Posted April 30, 2011 I love having carpet especially on the late hunts, it is good. Try getting ahold of a carpet installation company who upon removing "old" carpet, you go pick it up from them so they dont have to haul it off........I have pictures on the Mule Deer section of Chef and My hunt on the Kaibab......check out the "Man Cave" we set up in the 12x20 tent....complete with carpet throughout.............AT..........
