More hunt changes proposed

Three of the new proposals include:

 

Splitting the big game draw in 2007, with the elk and antelope portion of the drawing occurring in March for fall hunts, and the ones for deer, turkey and bighorn sheep taking place during the typical time period in June.

 

Creating a fall javelina season, starting in 2006.

 

Shifting archery deer tags from the rut to a later fall season.

 

 

I knew about the fall Javelina, but this is the first I have heard about drawing for elk and antelope in MARCH, and...

Hey desertbull, calm down bud, it says " shifting archery ELK tags from the rut to a later fall season" I haven't heard anything about messing with our archery DEER hunts. JIM

I May be wrong.... but I've read through the link 3 times now and keep seein' where it says " Shifting archery elk tags from the rut to a later fall season", I have not heard af any changes to the Archery rut hunts for deer. If that were the case, I feel we would have an even bigger uproar of opposition to the changes.

I think it was probably a typo on the website and they caught it. I looked at the link and saw deer tags, but now it says elk tags.

A lot of you will be pissed but I personally hope they remove any archery hunting during the late whitetail hunts. It is a shame that someone waits a lifetime to get a rifle tag and then they have a bunch of archers to compete with. The August and January hunts should stay but the archery hunt in December should be done away with IMHO.

 

I don't understand why the AZGFD doesn't come to sites like this to see what avid hunters think and get our opinions.....I guess politics don't really care what we think sometimes!

In the handful of December rifle hunts that I've had, I have only encountered two archers. The first wondered why I was back in so far, and the second had a felony so he could not use a firearm. Can't say that there's been much competition out there from my experience.

I say cancel the rifle hunt and keep the archery hunt or move the Dec rifle hunt to August.

I've been in the woods A LOT during the Dec hunts and I can't remember a time when one screwed me up. Usually they're hunting carp in the flats, not our precious whiteys.

never have had an archery hunter even close to messing with a rifle hunter....I too would rather lose a rifle tag instead of archery hunts.they should leave it as it is..both deer and elk
