DBArcher Report post Posted April 19, 2011 I was looking at the recomendations for next year and was wondering which of the units has a better trophy potential. I know there was something written about these units in the how to hunt coues book, but i dont have access to that book. I know both units fairly well so i am not looking for any spots to scout, just looking for trophy potential. Usually i can average several 85-90 inch bucks in 6a, but i have seen some quite larger in 21. maybe im answering my own questions and just talking in circles lol, not sure yet. Just looking to decide between my first and second choice. Thanks Daniel
Santana Outdoors Report post Posted April 19, 2011 If you are looking for a larger deer, I think both have that opportunity.
elkhunter Report post Posted April 19, 2011 6A probably had more potential for a real beast of a buck but I would guess both units has equal opportunities for a 100 inch buck Each to their own I guess!
missedagain Report post Posted April 19, 2011 I agree with the others that 6a hides some of those monsters, with the awesome vegitation growth 6a is already seeing I think those 85-90 inch bucks you usually see are going to be 95-100 inch bucks this year. If I had 5 or 6 points I would diffinately look at 6a december tag.
DBArcher Report post Posted April 20, 2011 I guess i am looking for that 100 inch buck to try and kill with my muzzleloader. I may put 6a dec first then 21 dec 2nd, then go down the list between the two. Any one ever have the november hunt in 6a, is it close enough to see some pre rut activity. I had a November hunt in 6a in 2008 the bucks were still running together and I did not see any pre rut activity at that time. I did take a 100+ on opening day during that hunt and my bro in law took a 90 inch buck that was running with the one I shot. I hunted 21 during the rut several times and during Oct as well. Both units have great potential.
coues.300 Report post Posted April 20, 2011 my dad and I have hunted 21 for the last 4 years in oct. and have taken 6 bucks in the upper 90s and 2 just over 100. We have done really well there. 6a is good I know 21 a little better.
DBArcher Report post Posted April 21, 2011 I think im actually leaning towards 21 a little more because it has more wilderness areas, and its also a little closer to home.
