COOSEFAN Report post Posted December 7, 2005 I was guiding around the heck's Gate wilderness area, East of Payson last week. My client, who's not a Coues hunter, said he sees a bunch of monkey's in the bottom of the canyon? I found them in the bino's and could see at least 10 Coati's running around, in and out of brush! I couldn't believe it, and wouldn't believe someone if they told me they saw Coati's that far up the state. I thought they were only in the southern/south-eastern part of the state? I've seen a few in 32 and 31 and in the border units, but never up here. Has anyone else seen them that far up? I dug out my camera and couldn't find them fast enough through the scope to take pic's, but I have witnesses! I was curious who else has seen them. By the way, someone has pic's of me makin' faces at your Moultree trail camera just south of Payson. That's a great tank the trail goes to! JIM

coueshunter84 Report post Posted December 8, 2005 The Fellow teaching my wife and daughters safety class, was telling the class that the cotai werent found in southern AZ. Again are not found in southern AZ. I enquired several times and she is sure of what was herd. I think someone has it backwards. But who knows. I have seen them as far up as the salt river canyon. And like everything else they have feet and territorial ranges. sounds like they be on the move. LOL Shane
trophyhntr Report post Posted December 8, 2005 COOSEFAN, I hunted the late archery bull hunt in 22N. I saw coati, whitetail, elk, and turkey all in the old burn around the control road, so definitely believe you! Pretty cool!
Lance Report post Posted December 8, 2005 I have seen Coati on Mt Elden north of Flagstaff. I herd that way back when they had the big fire on elden they found lots of dead ones. I have also seen Javelina in units 7 and 9. Kind of north and cold for them too. So I belive in your monkey story.
az4life Report post Posted December 8, 2005 I think it is just plain too far north to see coati's around payson. This might be a tip for Scotty. We have uncovered evidence that small stature illegals are putting on monkey suits and making tracks across AZ for Denver. They have fooled a lot of us and are moving steadily north and were undetected... until now!
