azhuntnut Report post Posted April 2, 2011 Can anybody recommend some good antelope videos that show the best way to judge a buck and the best ways to hunt them. I drew an archery antelope tag and have never had the opportunity to go out and actually hunt them. David

Eastmans kind of sucks. He just goes out scouting a bunch of small bucks... Then when he finds the bigger lone buck, He makes up a bunch of crap that aint true..Hes not very good at antelope judging either. Ron
ronaldo Report post Posted April 3, 2011 Size matters is full of very good information. It is pretty dry, but very informative. This is a great video. I watched it over and over before my hunt a few years ago. I field judged the buck I killed at 83.5 and when we got it on the ground it was 84. I was pretty impressed with that. LOL I was so excited that I kept adding the measurements wrong and my son was sayin.. "dad, 8 and 7 and a half isnt 13" LOL.. Ron
HEADACHE Report post Posted April 3, 2011 who makes the size matters video? because doing a google search for that topic leads to some pretty uninteresting links....

Verndog Report post Posted April 4, 2011 I had my first every antelope tag last year, a 19A archery tag. I also was concerned in proper judging. I bought Eastman's book and video and Grimmetts video. Both were good. Eastmann's book helped alot, the video was so so, but helpful. I really liked Grimmett's video, but they stayed really high in the scoring and videoing of bucks. I would of really liked to see alot more buck around the 75-80, versus 85+ all the time. Just to give you a comparison. During that hunt they are really moving. Other than that it was a great video. Definitely, great footage and gave you a good idea. I definitely hunted a 80+ buck for the first 6 days, just could ever get closer than 112 yards. Closed the deal on a 72" buck at 67 yards. I'll take it with a bow!

Red Rabbit Report post Posted April 4, 2011 I recall Eli Grimmett posting recently that they have come out with "Size is Everything 2"
StickFlicker Report post Posted April 4, 2011 The DVD is actually called "Size is Everything", and there is a second edition of it now. As was said earlier, they are a bit dry to watch, and they really only show antelope in the high 80's and 90's (the second edition says that 15 of the 18 bucks taken on the video are over 90 SCI), so for the average archery hunter it's true, they don't show many examples of what the average hunter is likely to see and take. However, there is some great video of some incredible bucks, so it's a fun watch and it will get you more excited about your upcoming hunt. While scouting it could be helpful to learn how to estimate score so you can center your attention on a bigger buck, but it's been my experience that there is usally a buck or two that are clearly bigger than the rest so it's not that much of a decision. Most new antelope bowhunters are unlikely to pass up too many bucks, if they are presented with a shot opportunity, they take it. So I think a few key pointers on scoring might be more helpful than the level of details contained in the DVD for most. For those that may have taken a few and are ready to be able to separate the 85 inch bucks from the 90, the DVD could be very helpful. Since this is your first bowhunt for them, most likely you will take the first buck that you have a chance to shoot. There are times, however, where there may be more than one buck presenting a shot at the same time, and a few tips on how to determine which might be the higher scoring buck could be helpful. The last buck I took with my bow was in a herd of four bucks that were all very similar in size. I waited until each of the four had given me a good look at their horns before I chose which one to shoot. All things being anywhere near equal, mass will mean all the difference in score on an antelope. There are ten measurements to score an antelope for the books. Eight out of the ten are made up in part or fully by mass. There are eight true mass measurements (4 on each side), length of horn measurements (1 on each side) and prong measurements (1 on each side). Since the prong measurement starts at the back of the horn, comes around the side of the horn, then extends to the tip of the prong, the mass of the horn itself will increase the length of the prong (it's not just how much is sticking off the front of the horn). For score, always choose the buck that looks heavier rather than one that might be a little taller. If it has both...... Good luck! Marvin
azhuntnut Report post Posted April 5, 2011 I am going to get that video from Amanda and try to find some others, plus some books. Marvin I am pretty patient when it comes to hunting, so I plan on holding out for a good buck. I just need to figure out all the tricks of the trade. Thanks for all the replys.
