Need a little Help.

I have been hunting 36C in January. I normally hunt with a group. This year I will be going with just one other person. We both agree that this is not a safe enough unit to be in, unless you are with a few other hunters. What I need help with, is there another area that holds bucks that won't cost us our lives. Last year was bad and Border Patrol paid us a visit at our camp, as there was all kinds of shooting going on and a person found dead. I have served in the Army and as a Ranger, but I do not feel that a Deer is worth leaving behind my 3 year old daughter. The interesting part was that the Border Patrol that swarmed our camp, was surprised to learn that we did not have firearms as a means of protection. We explained the Law and they said, " Down here? ". I would not care about the law, when it was my life at stake. Very interesting

 

Not looking for a secret spot, just another productive but safe area.

establish a perimeter with claymoores. keep several frag grenades handy. if all else fails, call in a napalm drop. wish i had real good info for ya, but after my last "illegal alien" run in, it's real apparent that they have more rights than we do. i'd pack a pistol and some extra ammo in my pack and not worry about it too much. keep a big mean dog in your camp. after my lecture from the mcso, when they told me they couldn't do anything because i couldn't give em a positive i'd., i told em that next time they would be easy to i.d. because they'd be they guys with bullet holes in their foreheads. this illegal alien deal and hunting is getting to be a real problem. don't know for sure what the answer is. but i do know this, you can dang sure keep a gun in your camp. and any rabbit pig that'd give you a ticket for havin' iron in your pack in illegal alien country oughta be shot hisself. can't remember for sure what the fine is for a concealed weapon without a permit, but it ain't much. ain't like it's a felony or anything. like the saying says, i'd rather be judged by 12 than carried by 6. just be smart, and i'm sure you'll be ok. might get a buddy with no tag to hang around camp too. no sense in "chummin'" em in with your camp.

There are loads of other good Coues units to hunt in. Try 32, 23, 24a and b, 31. They all have large areas of public land that are glassable and all hold good numbers of WT and no immigration problems.

Anything North of I-10 should be just fine. I hunt in 32 and 33 regularly adn the only foot traffic other then other hunters we see is generally several miles away down in the bottoms. . Pick a mountain range that stick up above everything, (North of I-10) And give it a go. Everything from Tucson East to the state line, holds whitetail. From Mt Lemmon to the Chiricauhas. Most have lots of state land, and with the exception of height arent that hard to hunt, as long as you know how touse your optics. LOL

Pack your bow and sidearm into the field on any archery big game hunt and just tell the game warden you are varmit hunting. Coyote season is year round and you can legally use a gun or bow.

Legally,no, you can't carry a fire arm if you are archery hunting.

that would not work. varment hunting with a bow and a pistol? i wouldnt do it. id carry my side arm and tell them " im out here and i dont wanna get shot by illegals so im i am carrying my side arm to protect my life if need be" be truthfull and they probably wont mind, lie and they wont like that.

Okay, I can?t carry a firearm to hunt any other legal species if I am in a possession of an archery only non permit tag for Dec.16, 2005 through Jan. 31st, 2006 archery-only season when I am hunting for deer.

 

That is what I am reading in the R12-4-318 C2 regulation book.

 

All I can say is stupid! I can?t even use my general hunting license to its fullest. That?s like saying ?you can only fish with one fishing pole at a time when you have purchased a two pole stamp?.

 

I am not going to spend all that money on my bow setup to use a handgun to shoot a deer, other wise I would not be bow hunting. Get a clue AGF, if I can get close enough to shoot a deer with my pistol, surely I can hit it with my bow and arrow!

We had this discussion several months ago, try looking in the archives under "carrying a handgun while archery hunting." Lot of good points and arguments on both sides. What they all came down to in the end was: take your own chances with the illegals or with the game ranger.

I hunted 6 days in Nov.,36c By myself Never saw a IA or border pat. Hunted during the week so I guess they had the week off. I would & do pack a pistola though.
