Pheasant Hunting

Recommended Posts

My lab, Lexie, is now 14 months and my relationship with this dog is more than I ever could have imagined. Starting shooting over her the last two weeks of dove season and really never got to duck hunt her but did shoot a couple mallards she wouldn't retrieve. I been working her in the back yard with those fozen mallards and now joined a Pheasant & Chukar Preserve to continue her training during the summer months. My first outing went pretty good being she never smelled a pheasant before. I had 5 birds planted and she showed a lot of potential and actually retrieved but came up 5 ft short of bringing them to me. We will work on that.

She has the run of the house and continues to chew everything in site. She is becoming my best friend and goes everywhere with me. She has her spot on the bed but bringing them antlers to bed in the middle of the night sometimes just don't fly. She is always carrying them around. Here is a picture of our last outing.

Lexie's everyday thing to do is dragging antlers in the house.

mbiewer, no I didn't join Desert Pheasant but I have shot birds there with a friend who had been using them. That's a good looking gsp you got and I would quess it wouldn't take much to get her trained. They have so much natural instinct not to mention they are a great family dog with a whole lot of energy. I am going to shoot you a pm with more information. They will give you twice the loving you give them that's for sure. :)
