A lot of the border units are under subscribed, I have picked up Oct hunts in 36B as my 3rd and 4th choice before. I haven't had issues with illegals even tho I have seen them pretty much every time I have been down in that country. Don't camp in major travel areas, you can tell by the trails and trash. I get by with a cot under a shade tree for the most part, but have had some times when a tent went up quickly due to rain or high winds.

Many Thanks for all the advice all of hyou have given, I do appreciate it.

What I need to know at this point, is how big a risk the illegals are?

I have been dealing with illegals out in west Texas where I hunt javelina since 1998, and have never had a problem.

I will be camping at either a commercial campground or a State Park, and driving to the area where I will be hunting.

If I am going to be hunting by myself, would it be in my best interest to apply for a unit where I will have a harder chance of getting drawn, but less chance of having problems with illegals, or go for one of the units where I will have a better chance of getting drawn, and shooting a buck, b ut possibly/probably having to deal with illegals?

I'm planning to put in for smack dab in the middle of Injun country.

Less hunters means a better chance of me filling my freezer. I also plan to hump it off the main drag quite a ways and get back in to areas other people don't want to be. This will increase my odds of not seeing or dealing with illegals and dopers (Tonks). It isn't the illegals coming across for work, or even the mules, but rather the border bandits that give me pause. Most of them are American from what I can gather and they operate on this side of the line.

I sent you a PM.
