If I was the one with the tag, I would have shot no question, but it was my wife's first archery elk hunt & she was only pulling 48-50 lbs. My point is, everyone has different skill levels & abilities. I don't delete the comments unless they have down right mean intentions & hopefully you guys will enjoy! We never saw Squeek again... I have had many sleepless nights thinking about this sceniro, but your comments make me feel better. Hind sight 20/20, I should have been set-up on the other side of the water! HIND SIGHT!!! I think hunters should hear more stories like this one. Making ethical choices on which shot to take and which to pass is a BIG part of hunting. Thank you for showing some restraint. I applaud you and your wife. I reminded me and i hope others that just throwing lead or arrows down range at a giant isnt always the best course of action . We all wait so long for these great tags, and with that wait sometimes it is easy to justify taking very marginal shots when you finally get drawn, especially when its a giant. But we all know that if you set up on the other side of the pond then he would have come in right to where your blind was while you were filming. That was one of the best videos I've seen showcasing true sportsmanship, ethics and respect for the animal! Everyone has their limits and to watch folks that have the respect and ability to stay within those limits is AWESOME! Anyone who has hunted Elk long enough knows that although they have a big kill zone, they are still one of the easiest animals to lose, regardless what you shoot em' with!!! It makes me sick to see folks still taking "head-on" or "quartering-to" shots with a bow and the most common are the shots taken farther than the hunters ability! Just like Dave said, when folks wait that long for a tag they are more apt to push the limits and take chances, and more times than not it ends in failure, I see and hear about it over and over again every season! I hope everyone watches this video and I hope everyone gives your wife and you the credit you deserve for being great hunters!!! Thanks for posting and great job putting it together!! It seems nowadays there is almost a nonchalant attitude towards losing animals because of poor shot placement which typically happens from shooting out of a set comfort zone. I hunt archery but have non-archers (rifle hunters) with me when I hunt, some get so mad when they see me pass on what they term as a 'easy' shot but for some reason or another I wasn't in my zone and didn't take that shot. I love when someone ask me "how close was the shot" instead of "how far". To watch an animal walk away that you didn't want to risk a bad shot on is much better than watching him walk away with an arrow in his butt! Chef Report post Posted March 11, 2011 I thoroughly enjoyed watching your vids. Phenomenal footage of that monster bull and great show of control by not taking the shot you were not sure of. I loved her hunt video as well and really felt the excitement. When you asked her how she felt and she said "scared" I just smiled. LOVE IT!!!
