samadams9 Report post Posted March 7, 2011 Hello, I'm currently in the market for a new rifle in a 300wsm and looking for imput. I think I've narrowed the search down to the T/C Icon Weather Shield vs. the Savage Weaher Warrior. Most of my hunting consists of coues, muleys, and elk. I'm looking for a rifle that is accurate and reliable out of the box. I'm not looking to buy a gun and then spend more money modifing it. I want to spend less the $1000. I've narrowed my search to these two rifles based upon internet reviews and discussions with people I known. But, before I " pull the trigger" I'm looking for anyone with information on these rifles or any others they would recommend. firstcoueswas80 Report post Posted March 7, 2011 If your stuck on the weather shile version... Well, first of all why are you set on something with an advanced weather coating? For Arizona, it is not needed.. Just take care of your guns if/when they get moist and all will be fine. It has been some time since I have seen one of the icons but I think they have the same trigger as the ventures. The only thing that I don't like about the trigger in these guns is how small and thin it is. To me this is a big deal only because it is different from all the other guns that I own. I still think that they are great guns. If some one made an aftermarket trigger for the Venture I would have bought one already. The accu-trigger is a great trigger and super easy to adjust. I think if it were me I would probably go that route. Like everyone else is also telling you if I had my choice I would buy a 700. The triggers are decent out of the box but if you put in a timney or jewel trigger you will have a great shooting gun! Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

I havent shot the new Remington trigger, nor have I played with it, but all of my Remington 700's, including my custom .257 wby have the factory triggers in them. When adjusted by someone who knows what they are doing MOST of the time they can be a satisfactory trigger... That is unless you want it set at less than 2 lbs, then a Timney or a Jewel is a good idea. Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
Bill Poole Report post Posted March 23, 2011 I'm a few weeks late seeing this, but I REALLY like the icon and I really dislike the looks of Savage. The icon is very accurate, nice trigger, feels good, except when carrying it with a sling then that stupid bolt handle digs into the back. I usually recommend Rem 700 for a first BG rifle.
