COOSEFAN Report post Posted November 29, 2005 I'm not after any secret spots, just curious about the unit and it's reputation. I am helping a guy in there during the week after Christmas. I've got a little pressure on me because he's after 95" or better or nothing! Walking long distances or over rough terrain is probably out of the question . I do know he can shoot long distance, and has a lot of experience doing so That helps! I'm in the process of getting maps together, and don't have one in front of me now, but I will. Is this unit known for big deer? What side of the unit would be better for my situation (hunter's restrictions)? I'm looking for areas that afford better vantage points, without busting brush too much?! Any places to avoid; private ranches, roads etc.? I'll be staying down there the rest of the month after this weeks 22S late bull hunt, so I'll have time to scout. Again, just after general info but email me if you want, I appreciate any info, thanks JIM
azcouesandelk Report post Posted November 29, 2005 I have hunted 35b many times for mearns and have found alot of nice sheds and seen some nice bucks but it is really thick and dense in the central part of the unit. If I were you I would try to make a run down there and do some quail hunting and some scouting at the same time.
pollohombre Report post Posted November 30, 2005 Coosefan , I have hunted 35B over 10 times. Last year in Dec this year in Nov. I have seen some pretty good bucks. I've taken a 103, 97, 87 and several between 75 and 85pts. I have hunted all over the unit. We should talk on the phone if you want my info. Its a tough unit to figure out without lots of scouting. Amanda posted the pictures of our hunt this year. pollohombre
JACK Report post Posted November 30, 2005 35B IS A GREAT UNIT. THIS IS THE PLACE MY WHERE MY DAD FIRST TOOK ME HUNTIN WITH HIM, I WAS FIVE YEARS OLD. SO I GUESS I HAVE BEEN GOING DOWN THERE OFF AND ON FOR TWENTY-ONE YEARS. IT'S NOT ANY DIFFERENT THAN ANY OTHER UNITS, SOME PLACES ARE OVER RUN WITH DEER AND SOME AREN'T. I DO THINK THERE IS A PRETTY GOOD LION POPULATION THOUGH. ALOT OF THE UNIT ISN'T REAL USER FRIENDLY, PRETTY STEP AND BRUSHY. IF YOUR GUY CANT DO ALOT OF HIKIN I WOULD TAKE A PRETTY GOOD LOOK AT THE COUNTRY WEST OF THE SAN RAFAEL VALLEY. THERE IS ALOT OF REAL ESTATE THERE AND YOU CAN PROBABLY FIND A SPOT THAT WILL WORK FOR YOUR DEAL. AS FOR BIG DEER, WELL, THEY ARE THERE. DO YOUR HOME WORK AND YOU WILL FIND THEM. GOOD LUCK!
