Couzer Report post Posted February 15, 2011 Was wondering if anyone has had success during the late spring turkey hunts? Are the birds still callable? Thanks for any info. Later Hunts are easier to call in those lonely toms!!! Gernerally I only hunt the later hunts. They get lonely and want to service those hens, but the hens are usually sitting on thier eggs. So Hen calls work out really good anywhere from 10am through 4pm on the late hunt. The Toms will come running in if they are near by. Scouting is a key factor
WHALE Report post Posted February 15, 2011 Was wondering if anyone has had success during the late spring turkey hunts? Are the birds still callable? Thanks for any info. Last year there were a few days they were still talking for us and pretty good. I screwed up on a nice tom at 35yrds and ended up killing a jack second to last day of the season. Good Luck
coues krazy Report post Posted February 15, 2011 Thanks for the info. Good to hear I can still call them. The challenge will be getting them in bow range!
Couzer Report post Posted February 15, 2011 Bow range shouldn't be a prob if the hens are sitting on the eggs. Just remember turkeys can see about 270 degrees without twitching there head, and as turkey do they always twitch thier head! That being said they can see 360 degrees all the time. Just remember they have about 12 times better vision than humans. Cover everything and stay away from certian colors like white, purple, red. They can smell but I heard they dont use it as a defense sense. So when you draw back, draw fast, or right before they come in, or when they are behind something! Good luck, I will envy you if you get one with your bow! Im sure others here can give ya some more pointers as well!
