My first Coues deer

Recommended Posts

I am a taxidermist from Idaho and took my first Coues deer this year. We hunted in 36b and my father and I both took good bucks. I have a great respect for these "grey ghosts" and am forever hooked on them. Didn't see many bucks, I would venture a guess that the moon had something to do with it. My buck was a 4X6 with a spread of 14 1/4 inches.

Thank you for the welcome! I tried to add a picture but apparently the file is too big. I got to watch my buck bedded for two hours, and being new to coues hunting, wasn't sure if it was a good one or not. I was on the highest peak we could find and heard lots of shots on opening day. I finally decided to take him. The shot was at 117 yards and he didn't go anywhere. I called my dad on the radio and asked him to come take a picture for me. I was real nervous he was going to laugh at me for taking a small buck, but when he saw the rack, I thought he was going to roll down the mountain! It took my dad 7 more days to get his, which was a 15 inch 4X4. A great hunt and awesome experience!

Redbonedawg,

Congratulations on your successful hunt and to your father as well.

Good stalking to get a 117 Yard shot on a bedded coues.

Are you going to get him mounted? :) ;)

Bret
