TAM Report post Posted February 9, 2011 A couple years ago Mike and I got drawn to hunt coues deer in the Burro Mountains in New Mexico. On the morning of the last day Mike stood up from our glassing point and happened to look down the hill behind us and saw three coues bucks looking back at him. He got all excited and said there's a buck! I didn't even budge from my seat because I thought he was kidding. But before I knew it he grabbed his rifle and shot the biggest of the three deer. When I finally stood up and looked at the dead buck laying on the ground with my binos I franticly told him that's not a coues it's a small muley... I proceeded to tell him I could see his tail perfectly through the grass and I was dead certain it was a muley! He was cussing mad at him self and figured he got caught up in the heat of the moment. Of course I was joking but I let Mike think he had poached a mule deer buck all the way down the hill! When he finally saw it was a coues I just smiled as he proceeded to spew out a few choice words for me!!!
bowsniper Report post Posted February 9, 2011 Up until five years ago, I had never met mike personally, just through PMs. Then, my 10 year old son drew a turkey tag in 22, Mike's favorite unit. Mike took me all around 22 showing me turkey hot spots. These same spots were also his coues hot spots. He hardly knew me, but he trusted me with his coues spots. I was completely humbled by his trust. Mike had a heart of gold, and an endless passion for coues, both with rifle and bow. There will be a giant void on this forum. Goodbye, Mike.
