Jason,

I have had work done by 3 different taxidermists. One did a deer in 11 months, another in 22 months and the last took 8 months. I have a real good one now, but he moved to Michigan and I have to wait for him or his family to make the trip to have the animals delivered. He will be picking up my New Mexico mule deer next month and guarentees I will have it back by Thanksgiving. All that I can tell you is it varies by taxidermist. Some get them out in a year and some don't. Some do good work and others not so good. Hope this helps you.

I've had mounts done by many taxidermists. All have been done in less than a year.

Since I have grown demanding and impatient in my old age, I now ask the taxidermist "how much more for a rush job"? My present taxidermist charges $100 more. My last muley I delivered to him November 10 and picked it up about January 15.

My taxidermist always deliver my trophys on 3 to 3 1/2 months and the quality and price is the best I seen.

Jason maybe your taxidermist is load it with work or there are more people ahead of you or something is going on. You should ask him and find out what is going on.

Personally if I had to wait that long I will get crazy, cause I love my trophys.

God bless you. Ernesto C

Jason - The Average in Arizona is 6 months to 2 years for a quality mount. there are several factors to consider in regards to completion time, these include: (1) Is your taxidermist full time with a real business location or does that person do it on the side out of their house? (2) Are the hides tanned professionally or by one of the shortcut methods ( Anything under 4-5 months unless a rush is specified and paid for probably will only last a few years before it must be remounted or thrown away). The best advice I can give you is to visit a few studio's a see if you like what they offer. Many "taxidermists" here use eastern whitetail forms and force the coues deer cape into position instead of properly either using the correct form or altering one correctly ( If they even know how). After you visit 2-3 studio's you can tell which ones do quality work and which ones just get by. If you visit a studio and they are able to get all of their work out in a very short time you might wonder why? If a studio has an average price range of $400 - $700 for a coues deer and is swamped they didn't get that way for turning out junk! Take some time and visit a few shops before you drop your hard earned cash. The worst 2 things you can do is call a studio and ask how much and how long? If you go by those 2 answers you are sure to get burned soon.

Thank You.

I never researched a Taxidermist before my December hunt last year was my first mistake. But i just had a second surgery to repair my ankle in the first week of December and was told by the Doctor that i wasn't going hunting any time soon. But i still figure out a way and he didn't understand my love for the outdoors and hunting the Grey Ghost so i had to hoble around.

Since then i have researched a few Taxidermist that i really like depending on where i am hunting and don't mind waiting as long as it is good work. Just hope i didn't screw up with this one.

I use Weller's Wildlife Studio and they take 8 - 12 months. The response from the AZ Taxidermist Association is very helpful but I think he mistyped something. You should absolutely be able to ask how much and how long, those are important to everyone. I think what he means is not expect cheap & fast to go hand in hand with quality work. Expect to pay a fair price for a trophy you want to last a life time, and this art will take time to do it right. Any good taxidermist should be busy and of course their busiest time is after the capes get back, assembling all the mounts. good rule of thumb for a good AZ coues taxidermist should be around 500.00 and take about 1 year.......................Allen..........

The next time you go to mount one, check out Patrick Newman's mount's...he's out of san manuel. He specializes in coues deer, exceptional work. true to life mount, he'll use the right form and usually ends up altering the form's to make them exact...true artist....P.Y.N.
