Super Sunday San Carlos

Recommended Posts

My dad and I went fishing this morning out to San Carlos Lake. First trip of the year to the lake. With all the cold weather and post front conditions were weren't expecting much if anything. It was going to be a scouting trip. We went into Mohave Point hoping the water was high enough to launch there. As usual the road in was fairly rough but uneventful. We got to the lake and had no problem finding a suitable launch.

After getting on the water, we headed up to San Carlos Point where we marked a lot of fish in 18-21 ft of water. Water temps were cold, 45 degrees. Way to cold for my liking. Anyway there were a total of 6 of us making up the flotilla.

We ended up catching 6 crappie, to my suprise, trolling with BBC and Chart. Shad tipped with minnows. That is 6 more than I really expected with the conditions. So we were happy with the trip.

You must be a WAY better fisherman than I am! We got skunked! Didn't stay long near the flotilla, tried a few other spots and went home empty handed!

Did you you happen to see the plane that came down to the water and ran his wheels across the surface? Thought it was pretty neat.

Thanks for the report, Brian. I was considering going out early this week but with the front moving in, and a pig hunt next weekend, it will probably be a couple weeks before I get down there.

Yeah!!!! I thought it was a seaplane and then I busted out the swaro's and figured I best be getting ready to go put my first responder training to use!!! It's beyond me how that wouldn't rip those tires off! The greeb's were sure putting on a show! I brought my DSLR and telephoto lens only to realize I left the memory card at home  I was in a white inboard ski boat set up half arse for fishing... you probably heard me yelling across the lake as my dog double over my $150 jigging rod just shy of enough to break it! I may try it next weekend, you gonna hit it again?

I thought if he got those wheels a little deep in the water he would do a header  Yeah, I will be back out. I grew up fishing San Carlos and I love the lake. I spend 90% of my fishing time there. My dad has a place in Globe and winters there ever since he retired so he and I pretty much live on the lake during the spring.
