donniedent Report post Posted February 6, 2011 Just confims what I'll do in the future. Both situations are a joke to me, especially since both animals were recovered during an open season. Just stupid if you ask me. They could care less about hunters anymore, to them, we are a necissary evil!
Guest Lobo Report post Posted February 6, 2011 these are really sad situations. the Director should and could step in and do something about this once and for all. all this leads to is people not trying to do the right, ethical thing because they are just going to get screwed. this totally sends the wrong message to the public, hunting community, who like was said before, PAYS THEIR SALARIES. despicable if you ask me. shame on the G&F! I thought doing the right thing and being ethical meant - regardless of consequences. Just because we do the right thing doesn't mean we get what we want. When law enforcement officers put a smile on our face they are good, but when we can't have things our way they're not? But the way I understood this is that the season was not over. So why confiscate the animal if the search is ongoing? That's not cool. I'll ask this question again. If it was a smaller animal would it be easier to let go of it? Would it be as important? Also if the hunter reported it and the officer believed him - why couldn't he keep it? It shouldn't have to go any further than that. That doesn't make sense. Couldn't the officer/G&F do the right and ethical thing also?
elkaholik13 Report post Posted February 8, 2011 The way i understood it the officer had no choice. this is a new policy that the commission set up. I dont agree with this because the officer hired are not idiots they can tell right from wrong. i believe the officer should have a say in what happens. I would have gladly thrown my 2011 tag on it but i did not have one at the time and the officer stated that even if i did i would not be able to tag the animal. donniedent Report post Posted February 8, 2011 Stupid, stupid, stupid. Guys trying to do the right thing and they get the shaft. I'm really not liking G&F over this one.
couespatrol Report post Posted February 8, 2011 I understand some may defend the G & F Officers because of what the Law states. But as a Law Enforcemant Officer I was Taught in the Acedemy over 16 years ago that there is the "Letter Of The Law" and the "Spirit Of The Law". Keeping the spirit of the Law in mind we must realize the citizen deserve a break every now and then. A little common sense should always prevail. Or maybe that is something that is no longer taught!!!!!
elkaholik13 Report post Posted March 4, 2011 My meeting with the commission is on Friday March 11. hopefully i will be posting good news when i get back from Phoenix on Saturday.
Santana Outdoors Report post Posted March 4, 2011 Awesome buck, congratulations on shooting a buck that size with a bow! Sorry to hear this. The game warden should be able to use "common sense" in the field to be able to let him keep his antlers. You are right this kind of action against a good hunter just makes it wrong. So it is just like anything else in our system, nothing will change unless we stand up and fight them to make them reconsider the way they do this. Sadly this only effects a few and not enough to push us to do something about it! Again sorry to hear about your story.
AntlerObsession Report post Posted March 4, 2011 You got that right. They made an enemy out of me that day. After that I wouldn't even help one, even if they were broke down. In the past I have always tried to do the right thing. I alway called them if I saw something out of the ordinary. Not anymore. I will just go hunting and keep my nose out of anyones business. Not My Worry! What a perfect example of what our government, and their policies, are doing to the American people. It's a small thing, but its indicative of what good, honest folk are forced to deal with this bureaucratic BS. No offense intended, Hawkeye and bureaucrats. Offense intended to those who can change things, and don't... Leaders, and civilians. Nice Buck.
Coues Archer Report post Posted March 6, 2011 That is some serious B.S dude! I would not have reported it, it was your buck anyways.
dieselroe Report post Posted March 10, 2011 Sounds like this is a sore subject. I think its better to just tag your animal and keep on truckin.

4Falls Report post Posted March 12, 2011 This kinda stuff is what frustrates me so much with game and fish. This whole "us against them" attitude they have adopted. They truly think that the wildlife in the state belongs to them and that all sportsman are guilty of something. The same attitude has been adopted by the Forest Service as well. They believe that the Nat'l forests belong to them and that we should be grateful that we have their permission just to look at their forest as we drive by on the freeway. Really chaps my hide when I hear of National forest lands referred to as Forest Service Lands... sorry to hijack the post. Elkoholic I really, really hope you get your trophy back. Flash Report post Posted March 13, 2011 It's a tough deal you ran in to, but I know Game and Fish have dealt with a couple folks in a small town that had illegally shot a couple animals and brought them in a few weeks after saying they had hit and lost them in season. For multiple reasons, but they basically found the animals to be "fresher" than the story fit. The only reason to bring it up is to add that somethimes G&F has a reason, but I will certainly agree that there are way more stories of them acting in a less than sportsman like way. I hope you can get your antlers back at the auction and find a cape, mount it and admire a heck of a trophy for the rest of your life, regardless of the crappy situation you are going through. elkaholik13 Report post Posted March 28, 2011 Well let me start by saying I got my deer antlers back for the minimum bid of $200. When they started the auction there was a 6x6 bull elk europeian mount with a plaque that he was going to stat for 100 and some change but he looked up and saw us watchin and changed that to $220 when we asked why my deer was so much he stated that elk racks were a dime a dozen and deer racks were going for a pretty penny. But acording to the commission and the guys at the ASSet program its not about the money. Wile waiting for the auction to end commissioner Jack Huestead walked by and made a smart a$$ remark saying " your being hard on them to day huh" and walked away laughing. One of the ASSet guys kept pointing out my deer to people interested in the elk and then looking over twards us like he was trying to piss us off. I believe the G$F needs to look at the way their handleing these situations or there will be no one contacting them for anything anymore.
gotcoues Report post Posted March 28, 2011 Truly unbelievable! If I was in your situation, I would be heartbroken and mad as heck. I'm glad you were able to get your antlers back, despite of how it all played out.
