Buckhunter Report post Posted January 30, 2011 Is it realistic? AZ Game and Fish Dept would hate to see this happen. Maybe if it were on private land. But to think that there is already alot of people taking up varmit calling now, it might not be a good idea.
metau Report post Posted January 30, 2011 I used to hunt at night when I lived in CO. It was fairly simple to do. Go into the local field office, fill out a free permit/form with unit(s) wishing to hunt, and then call the WM each night when driving out. It was only valid for a month at a time, and becuase there were lynx in the units, the permit was valid for coyotes only. Fairly simple system to use, though there is a long ways to go for some folks to fill out a form at a regional office here in AZ.
coues7 Report post Posted January 31, 2011 That would be sweet if they passed that through. Lots of states have it and I think it's a win-win situation.
Coach Report post Posted January 31, 2011 Could be pretty cool. I've noticed how many night-vision type tools are being sold these days by companies like Cabelas's and Bass Pro for coyote hunting. I wonder how that will impact AZGFD's ability to combat poaching. This could get interesting.
coues7 Report post Posted January 31, 2011 I doubt states with night time hunting have any higher rates of poaching than states like ours that do not allow (at this time) night hunting.
aztrophytakers Report post Posted February 1, 2011 I doubt states with night time hunting have any higher rates of poaching than states like ours that do not allow (at this time) night hunting. I agree with this. I think it would be a great idea and it would save a bunch of deer as well...
oz31p Report post Posted February 1, 2011 I could support/participate in this. But only if during the night hunting season no other big game were in season. With the right set up it could work but I doubt it will. Just look back to the wild life prop back in november too many pepole with the wrong info spreading it around. cw4192 Report post Posted February 1, 2011 The sooner this takes place the better. I think that night hunting should be allowed for pred's during all birthing seasons of big game. All hunters should agree.
azslim Report post Posted February 1, 2011 will lead to lots of shooting out of a rig, people driving roads and looking for eyes - too easy to poke the gun out the window and let her fly - and uneducated killing deer by accident.....
missedagain Report post Posted February 1, 2011 will lead to lots of shooting out of a rig, people driving roads and looking for eyes - too easy to poke the gun out the window and let her fly - and uneducated killing deer by accident..... I don't agree with this logic at all, should we just make it illegal to drive at night to take away temptation of doing something that is already illegal? Hunters need to support anything that increases hunter opportunity! I don't hunt rabbits but I shouldn't be able to stop you if you want to do it. If someone knows the best way to show support for this, please let us know

As for night hunting certain critters, I'm for it. Seems that with a few stipulations enforced, they could make this pretty effective.
youngbuck Report post Posted February 1, 2011 Anytime somebody mentions night hunting, I picture Jeff Foxworthy's bit on it. Thats the one where they shoot momma's propane tank. I dont have a problem with the proposal. I dont know the slightest thing about hunting dogs at night, but I'd give it a try if it was legal. AZGFD is pretty strict now about spotlighting; no weapons of any kind in the vehicle. It could be hard to enforce the new laws if passed. I'm for it, but don't know too much about it. Ive never done any night hunting. In the article it also talked about night hunting for racoons. Isn't that already legal?
