24B Hunt newbie???

Recommended Posts

So sorry for any mistakes I make on any of these post

So Im new to Hunting, I did some when I was 4-5 with my dad but that was in Michigan, and I dont remember anything. Could someone explain the draw to me and what big game it is for? See some buddies of mine are goin bow hunting in 24B and as you know there rules are totally different than rifle, they asked me to go with and they would teach me to spot/glass for them. They also said I could get a tag for something if I wanted, what do you have to get drawn for? What could I hunt in 24B? Could I do mule or white tail or are they out of rifle season? What about mountain lion, iknow that there arnt any in that area according to this, http://www.azgfd.gov/h_f/hunting_units_24b.shtml

But is that correct? Have anone of you guys seen any?

anything else a newbie like I should know?

THANKS for you patience/help

ps This is all hapenig this weekend so quick awnsers would be great

THANKS AGAIN

Well, maybe the AGFD site does not say there are lions in the unit, but Yes, there are. Here is a bit of proof.

Mt Lions in 24b

I have seen lion tracks before in this unit as well as scat and kill remains, so you better believe they are in there.

You pretty much need a draw tag for any big game in the state. Look over the info on the AGFD site and you will get all the specifics.

Your interest and desire to get an education is admirable. The best thing I would suggest is to keep reading the posts here, and review the regs on the Agfd site. Then tag along with your buddies and see it all first hand. Learn the glassing and stalking tecniques, from those who already use them. Earn your stripes by being a spotter and a pack mule for your buddy. Share the experience and you will find out what it is all about.

Books and reading are a start, but experience is the best teacher.

Welcome to the site and good luck.

Get a copy of the hunt regulations and read them!

and by the way the web site doesnt say that there are no lions in there.

Buy a lion tag before you go but the chances of seeing a lion in there without well trained dogs are about the same as pulling a spaceship out of your ear.

 Thanks for your words of wisdom and positive anwser to my questions. I have been doing some research on the matter and picked up a booklet of the regulations/tags/prices needed for which areas, Ive been reading and reveiwing it for most of the night, and now I need to know, what rifle to bring? 243? 30-06?

I know these are both prime deer rifle, but if Im shooting anything its goin to be a lion, because I didnt put in for the draw and I dont think it is Rifle season for deer.

THANKS for your help B)
