WHALE Report post Posted January 21, 2011 Talking to the wife tonight about her 1st pig tag that is coming up and she says she will probably not go due to the fact that she will be four months pregnant. I told her she would be fine she will either be shooting a 223 or a 243 and the kick and noise aint bad. Has anybody had their pregnant wife shoot a rifle or going hunting? Is this a bad idea on my part?
Ernesto C Report post Posted January 21, 2011 In my opinion is ok if she goes hunting. She can still hunt or just set on a small hill and wait/glass for them (or both)If she still hunts that will be good ejercise for her. Avoid any long/hard hiking and you know...use common sense and be carefull. If she decides that she don't want to hunt, maybe she can donate a tag to a another child? Good luck and keep us posted. mje1 Report post Posted January 21, 2011 If she feels up to it you bet. My wife killed her first coues on a december hunt when she was 3 months pregnant, and she actually climbed a pretty big mtn/hill to shoot him in his bed. Good Luck and Congrats on the little one. Oh and she did practice before the hunt with a 30.06 and .270 and used the .270 on the hunt.
25-06 Report post Posted January 21, 2011 Any woman pregnant or not that thinks she might not be up for a javi should not be presured to go...
tjhunt2 Report post Posted January 21, 2011 Whale, no I haven't been thru your situation but I will tell you if she doesn't think she should go then don't push the envelope. I started my wife out hunting with me some 34 years ago and pushed her to the limit and didn't take the time or patience to go at her pace and had her quit hunting because of it. It wasn't until many years later that I got her into hunting again and now I make sure she has it as easy as I can make it for her. Just my $.o2. It makes for a better camp and them wifes will love you for it. Pay backs are awesome! TJ
More D Report post Posted January 21, 2011 my wife was very disappointed because the midwife was adimate (sp) about her not going elk hunting. she stated the reason was because the percussion of the shot would be amplified by the fluid around the baby and the vibration could harm the baby. even if she was not the shooter. i do understand the percussion and vibration but i aways believed that the midwife was a anti-hunting tree hugger organic nature lover etc... in the end my wife did not hunt. Our doctor said the same thing and she was a hunter. I tried talking her into letting the wife go elk hunting. But she kept saying the noise/percussion could be harmful. Not the walking or bumping around in the truck that you think would be a reason.
azslim Report post Posted January 21, 2011 I know several ladies that hunted into their 7th month.....depends on the lady.
WHALE Report post Posted January 21, 2011 Thanks for the input. I am not worried about the hiking. It would not be all that bad walking the ridges and I would pack the gun and gear. It is the percussion she is concerned about, I might have to ask her doc i guess. She wanted to go until the pregnancy came about. We will see. Congrats TJ on that many years together that is awesome.
rclouse79 Report post Posted January 21, 2011 Does she shoot a bow? I think you can use them on a firearm hunt and that would get rid of the shock wave issue.
TexasHunter Report post Posted January 21, 2011 well our doc didnt seem to concerned about the percusion but she did say be careful of the really rough raods and streaneous activity. So becareful with the hiking.
OpticNerd Report post Posted January 21, 2011 My wife and I were in the same boat a few years back and we ask 3 doctors and all 3 said it's not good for a pregnant lady to be shooting a rifle. It's not worth it in my mind even if there is no clear evidence showing it will hurt the fetus. When it come to your kids nothings more important.
sbhunter Report post Posted January 21, 2011 Depends on the doctor I guess, my wife killed a nice bull at 6 1/2 months with the ok from her doc!! Shooting T/C 50 cal to top it off!
rclouse79 Report post Posted January 21, 2011 I thought about it some more and decided you shouldn't do it. If your kid comes out cross-eyed you would always have to wonder if it was from shooting the gun.
