Unbelievable Trail Cam Pics! (Pics Added)

Recommended Posts

Unfortunately I could never find the skull of this buck. Between 3 of us we had probably 10 hours total invested in scouring the countryside looking for the skull!

This camera location is where a spring comes out of the ground and forms a small but deep pool of water in a rocky crevice. That deep pool is just out of the screen, right where the coyotes chase the deer into. I hadn't checked this camera until several days after this incident unfortunately. The only evidence that something took place was a completely cleaned back leg, intestines floating in the water and the tail! I never found another piece of this deer! I even rigged up a hook on the end of a long pole to fish around in the deep pool but the only thing we pulled out was a single turtle.

It's hard to see on these pics but it's actually a big buck and possibly a certain buck I had several encounters with last year, I just needed to see the skull to verify. Very unfortunate, especially with how long it took the coyotes to kill it, but it's mother nature at her finest i guess! JIM>

I knew they were hard on fawns and wounded animals, didn't think they could take a healthy one - unless the buck had issues already and that's why the coyotes got after him.

I like the snake too, I've run across a couple of small Rosy Boa's here in Az, nothing that size tho.

Very interesting!!! I couldn't really make out the size of the deer, it will be interesting to see the head if you ever find it.

Jim,

I'm glad you shared these and are bringing to light to people that coyotes kill far more adult deer than people realize. I've personally seen coyotes hunt mature Coues deer several times, and while I've never seen them be successful at it, I know they aren't doing it because it hasn't worked before. Another thing to consider is that often times when a lion kills a deer, coyotes will actually steal the carcass after the lion feeds the first time. This forces the lion to kill another deer when he could have fed off the first deer for a week. So they are directly and indirectly responsible for mature coues deer (big bucks) being killed. I'd be interested in seeing the skull from that buck you have on camera if you ever find it.

Guest super jumbo

Thanks for sharing the pics jim. I wish i would have gone with you and the muzzleloader to mex. Maybe the end of the month though. I didnt think coyotes killed to many coues deer, but now i know they do. Guess we better start shooting more dogs out there.

Sweet pics. Now lets all do our part and get rid of at least 2 coyotes a month. It will just barley put a dent in the population but hey it will help. ;)
